Drank the last of these with C and William at Hawksmoor. It was still good, but without food, there was a bitter twang on back end. With food, much better. Still, a pretty amazing performance for English fizz.

I wondered if I might have left these too long, but two bottles were stunning. A few years ago I found a distinctive grassy note, but now these were just like first rate champagne, nicely mature with golden colour, soft fruit and biscuit notes. I doubt if these could improve from here, but I am very glad I kept them this long.

C: Quite a golden yellow, fine stream of beads, lots of bubbles. N: Yeasty, mushroomy lemon juice. Very appealing, and definitely showing signs of being a few years old. P: Extreme acidity, very fresh, lemon juice. Green apples, some yellow tones. Wonderful long finish. O: A really good wine, decently balanced, complex, complete and long. Perhaps slightly too yeasty for my palate, maybe slightly off balance with respect to fruit and acidity and the attack maybe a bit muted. Otherwise, very good.

1982 Bordeaux at Crabtree Kittle House (Chappaqua, NY): Rather yeasty and ripe in its flavours, showing rich citrus fruit and some tropical elements tinged with doughy and biscuity notes. It's quite pleasant to drink, not particularly complex but nicely balanced though there is a touch of coarse roughness on the back end.

Another superb bottle, showing no signs of age. Fresh, fizzy and long.
