From a magnum at a Nyetimber tasting. Directly following the new releases of the 1086 by Nyttimber both white and rose (see notes), so rather in their shadow in terms of refinement (though at around 25% of the cost). The last vintage classic cuvee before becoming NV only. Last tasted in July 2016 from bottle and as then I don't think this is the best vintage of the Classic Cuvee. 88 as before.

Two mags drunk with consistent results: softly effervescent, rounded and drinkable without being too sweet, a feeling of understated class. Felt slightly more mealy and mature than a mag at Christmas had done, but there's ages to go on this showing.

Christmas 2023; 12/24/2023-12/26/2023 (Home): Magnum. Considerably more youthful than the 2009 seemed (also in mag) a few months ago; it's ready, but has years to go on this showing. Well-mannered, well-balanced, plenty of energy and a sense of finesse, but not yet a huge amount of character.

A pleasure to come back to my favourite UK sparkler and now I finally got an opportunity to taste a magnum of its rare vintage classic cuvée. So far only two solo vintages were released of this classical multi-vintage cuvee. Made from a blend of 51% PN, 36% Chardonnay and 13% PM. Medium+ intensity aroma of shells, stone, apricots, wild flower hints. Medium body, full of energy, fine mousse, smoky, edgy, vibrant, nervous and uplifted even more with its meticulously integrated high steely acidity (10.5 g/l RS).

Absolutely brilliant bubbly- from magnum, and that helped, as there was the opportunity for it to develop with a bit of air over the time we consumed it. Green apple gave way to brioche and caramel notes- still very fresh but with a lovely level of complexity. Fine mousse, delicious nose and long finish. Highly recommended.
