I read the last review and panicked that this had been in our cellar too long, so urgently brought it out and cracked the cap, decanting into a measuring bowl because someone had managed to use my decanter as a vase.
It was a rich brown colour. It didn't need long in the mixing bowl (five minutes was enough); it was very well balanced with strong fruity (blackcurrant) flavours on the front of the tongue, earthy mid tones, balanced with a fine alcohol base and subtle tannins. Very rich and full bodied - not at all what we expected! A superb drop.

Green and lactic. Has some classy fruit and elevage but is showing significantly worse than five years ago - even under stelvin cap. Light and lean and finishing slightly watery. The wine is not oxidative or drying out, but the milky aspect and the less than vibrant nature of the fruit suggest this wine is in decline. The Cabernet makes its presence known but this wine is evidence that Martinborough is Pinot country, more that that of Cabernet. 81-

white pepper, classy ripe NZ fruit. Fresh earth (!) and raspberries. Touch of charcoal on the nose. This is lightyears ahead of Celebres of 20 years ago! On the palate, white pepper and raspberries echo - distinct herbaciousness but excellent presence in a classic medoc sized structure. Beautiful spice in this wine. Very, very good wine. Try in 5 years.

Aromas of blackcurrant, soft plums and leafy/stalky notes, followed by an opulent palate which follows a dark forest berry and slightly minty/herby note. Strong length and depth of flavour and one that should continue to develop.

Annual Day Trip to Martinborough: Sharp acidity, harsh tannins, simple, missing the mid-palate. Expected better.
