Nose of dark berries, subtly dosed spices, peonies. The palate is concentrated but gentle: dry red berries, hints of herbes de Provence, later some cinnamon. Long sappy finish, with upper notes of charred bread. Texturally some lingering tannins there but I found this to nicely complement the otherwise silky body. Excellent now, will further integrate with a couple of years. 92-93

{Cellared since release, 2nd bottle of I think 5 or 6 purchased, perfect fill} Simply gorgeous, red and black fruits, surprisingly floral and elegant - when tried in 2016, more muscular and unresolved - this bottle very pretty aromatics, excellent length, depth, duration. Whole cluster freshness. Ready to go, balance is impeccable and will last; this is in contrast to many Gevrey Grand Crus from 2002 that are not yet ready to drink IMHO. Not a hint of the stewed notes mentioned in a prior note. Really first-rate.

Ch de La Tour VV 2002 - now finally open and ready. Attractive nose with spice and flowery. Body end of summer feel, good ripeness and still fresh, a bit of umami. Blind possibly a good Gevrey Chambertin GC. In better vintages and with some age an excellent good value Burg if there is such a thing.

NDG 2002 Clos de Vougeot Dinner (Summer Pavilion, Ritz Carlton, Singapore): This was very solid. The best amongst its flight, just about besting the more elegant Arnoux I thought. The nose reflected the whole cluster character of the wine very clearly, with wild notes of perfumed flowers, sweet spice and herby stalks drifting about a lovely lifted red fruitedness. Really nice. The palate was still very tight and young, with firm tannins and well buried acidity forming a muscular but noble frame for deep notes of sweet black cherries and darker blueberries, lined with more of those whole cluster herbal notes leading into a chewy finish. Lovely clarity here. Unlike most of the other wines on the night though, this feels like it needs many years yet. It would be interesting to try again sometime around 2020-2022.

Well aged and now perfect. Still some red berry and Pinot smell with hints of barnyard and mature aromas. Great value wine.
