Last night I opened a "lost in the cellar" wine. A 1999 Martinelli Reserve Pinot Noir. I don't think they even make a Reserve anymore. While the nose smelled oxidized, the palate seemed youthful, with plenty of sweet strawberry flavors on the palate, along with a medium length finish. The 15.5% alcohol was barely noticeable.
I served this with a box of Zatarain's Bourbon Chicken Flavored Rice, to which I added one whole diced onion, a tablespoon of Harrisa paste, and a whole head of Tuscan Kale for one pot meal.
These were the wines that first attracted me to Martinelli's Pinots. I don't think any of their current offerings is anything like their old Reserve labeling.

Still hanging in there but too sweet for my taste. Beyond the upfront sweetness there is not much going on. The high alcohol content is notable. Short finish. I can't compare it to when it was younger. Perhaps it is on the decline.

This wine drank more like a recent modern pinot noir than a vintage one. At opening this was + 15 years old. Much smoother than most pinot noir's and great, and I mean great fruit forward taste. Highly recommended given the auction price paid of around $ 35.00/ bottle

Bought it to try an old Cali pinot. Hoped it would deliver.
Color. Darker garnet.
Nose. Stewed red fruits, a little raisin, alcohol, damp earth.
Palate. Raisins and stewed fruits.
Not the real Mccoy.

This was just a beautiful bottle. Soft, lush fruit in perfect condition for current drinking.
