  • Kleur: Zeker voor Ch9dP opvallend donker gekleurd. Aroma / bouquet: Dit is CH9dP op anabole steroïden! Uitgesproken stuivend bouquet boordevol donker fruit, gedroogd fruit, zacht zoete kruiderij, gemberkoek. 50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 12 + Smaak / Afdronk: 19 + Algemeen / potentieel: 9 = 95/100

Colour: Strikingly dark coloured, especially for Ch9dP. Aroma / bouquet: This is CH9dP on anabolic steroids! Pronounced dusty bouquet full of dark fruit, dried fruit, soft sweet spices, gingerbread. Taste / Aftertaste: Extremely concentrated, dark Ch9dP, soft acidity, packed with beautifully matured but still sturdy tannins, also very aromatic in the mouth with impressions of dark fruit, coconuts, gingerbread and mon cherie chocolates. General / potential: The XXL cuvee was only released three times, in 2007, 2016 and 2019 and is made from 75% old Grenache vines and matured for three years in small wooden barrels. The most special Janasse I ever had in my glass. 50 + Colour: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 12 + Taste / Aftertaste: 19 + General / potential: 9 = 95/100

93 vvPunkte www.vvwine.ch

  • Decanted over cocktails. Intense yet not overpowering CdP in modern style with medium-plus body and oodles of black cherry, baking spice, high-toned acid, chewy tannins. Surely a steak-lover's wine and most who enjoy California cults will love this although it's clearly not made from Cabernet. Very enjoyable for sure.

  • I popped and poured this wine with some trepidation. Like many people before me, my palate has shifted over the years. I no longer enjoy the bruiser CdP special cuvees like I did 5-7 years ago (I still love, and hope I always love, the base cuvees of Beaucastel, Charvin, Clos des Papes, Pegau, Vieux Télégraphe, and Vieux Donjon). Given that shift, the reputation of 2007 CdP in general, and the obvious thrust of this wine, I feared the worst. More specifically, I expected this wine would resemble the pruney 2003 CdPs that I hate, perhaps with even more heat and stewed fruit. I worried that I would soon be dumping a few hundred dollars of wine down the drain. I was pleasantly surprised by the actual experience. This is a solid red wine with some modest sediment at the end of the bottle. On the nose, I get super-ripe blue and black fruits, fresh coffee, and a touch of heat. In the mouth, this is loaded, with a plush mouthfeel, a chocolatey element, and a touch of heat. The finish is very long with aspects of fruit compote. Overall, this is clearly a cocktail wine, but it is not dissimilar to an SQN grenache. This is a big wine (to match the stupid oversized bottle – a perpetual gripe of mine), but it is not completely over the top. Coming full circle, I was surprised by how good this wine was. I wouldn’t buy it again (for the price, I’d much rather have a back vintage Chave Hermitage or any number of nice 1er Burgs), but don’t regret having this one bottle. For fans of the style, I think this is near peak now and would suggest having with some fatty meat. 93 points.

  • Huge and complex, but too young. Needs another 5-10 years to fully integrate and evolve.
