Developed and ready to go. On the nose there’s ripe fig, toast and vanilla. It is buttery rich in the mouth with good breadth and shape and a finish that drives on.

Relatively ripe and fat for a Littorai chardonnay, with yellow tropical fruit, and a fair bit of oaky vanilla accented by macadamia nut. But despite the richness there's good acidity and structure, with the oak fully integrated, and juuuust enough minerality to hold the midpalate together. Mature but not oxidized, quite nice.

Delicious. Aromas reminiscent of a panoply of tropical fruits dipped in butterscotch leap from the glass. Thick and viscous, this cuts a broad swath across the palate; with the butterscotch theme repeated and just oozing with honey. Dried pineapple, lemon preserve, and crushed rock came to the party as well, and the wine finishes with hazelnut and brioche notes, reflecting its' age. This had a waxy texture that, along with the flavor profile, was evocative of aged white rhone. What a treat.

Tasted at the winery with limited notes. Quite lovely. Good color. A nose and palate that are rich and have, what I call, a touch of squash blossom -- among many other elements. Was surprised at how rich this wine has turned out Still in keeping with Ted's approach to making fine wine and great to try. Didn't expect the fruit to remain as complex given the historic track record of most CA Chardonnay. Yes, the fruit has changed, but has not faded to just a glass of alcohol and oak. No, not here. This older California Chardonnay proves that, if properly made, the wine will remain integrated and very drinkable. Winery notes say: "2001 produced opulent, rich and exotic wines and the truffle notes in the aromas reflect that." Good fruit and acidity. Well integrated fruit and acids that are in balance with the alcohol. Very enjoyable to drink. Not sure how to score this wine, might go higher except that I enjoyed the 1997 Mays Canyon Russian River Valley Chardonnay even more.

This is one of two late release chardonnays I received from Littorai in the past year. Both oxidized.
