Certainly the oldest Newton Merlot that I’ve tasted (although I still have a bottle of the 87). Pleasantly old, but alas, dead. Color a light red amber, with hints of earthy, spice, and cigar box. A subtle but short finish for the first hour, but then turned harder and more tannic after two hours. Best during it’s first hour. Unfortunately, perhaps ten years too late.
