  • All of the 07s from this southern tier of France should be this honest, as it pretends to be nothing more than it is, and it works. Dark, almost purple, faded to the rim. Aromas of diesel exhaust, stewed blackberries, peppery briar, concrete and campfire. Medium-bodied palate, with abundant acidity, and proud, but fading tannins that keep the package sensibly framed. Oddly bitter finish, but, thanks to a good sense of earth and fresh acids, it's not awkward. Poured straight to decanter, and enjoyed over the following 90 minutes. 13,0% abv, recommended, drink thru 2017

  • PnP, served non-blind and consistent with last month's bottle. Medium-bodied, with subtle, but attractive aromas of cake spice, freshly ground peppercorns, cured meat and scorched earth. Really well lifted, but also enough fruit that it's not dry or hollow. Worked well with pulled pork and polenta. 13,0% abv, drink thru 2016. recommended

  • Aerated to decanter 2 hours, served non-blind, across two nights. The opposite of a fruit bomb. Earthen, meaty, with peppercorns and hot galets. Medium-bodied, very well lifted. Gains some complexity and weight with airtime, i.e. begins good, gets better, but falls short of very good or excellent. Solid food wine, and not what I was expecting from the (over?) ripe '07 class. Very traditional, and recommended, thru 2016

update: after a night in the fridge, this made a marvelous transformation, moving to more depth, breadth and complexity to the fruit. The nose was in the very good camp, the palate, not far behind. Very happy with my purchase.

  • Decanted 2 hours for aeration. Be sure to serve at cellar temp for best results. Dark ruby toward purple, no sign of age. The aromas and the (medium-bodied) palate here exemplify why I love French wines and French wines from lesser-known growing regions. Packed with freshness, funk, lovely fruit and an understated elegance, this was an exceptionally capable food wine when served alongside burgers and fries. At 13% abv, all of the nuances and purity shine through. As with most well-made wines that are drinking at/near peak, the last glass was the best. Highly recommended for lovers of traditional styling and purity. Drink thru 2017, score: B+/A-

  • Goes down the throat like oil. Very fun giving, easy drinking wine for little money. Perfect for a party. I guess something for almost everybody!
