  • I was anxious when picking this bottle for dinner: inconsistent (yet often surprising) producer, not a strong vintage, and an old one. Bottle was in impeccable condition (high level, clean cap, and importantly a beautiful color in the bottle). My anxiety turned to nervousness when the sommelier brought the decanted wine and the nose at first was pungent... But I generally find that I am impatient with old wines. After all, this one had been in a bottle for 30 years, how could I reasonably have expected it to be immediately fresh when opened? Indeed, after about 90 minutes, it finally opened up to reveal the bouquet and taste of a true Montrachet. An outstanding experience, and the wine of the night!
