  • Tasted over 2 hrs
-nearly semi-translucent ruby core mild bricking
-lifted cherry and other bright red fruits
-med+ acidity, med/med- weight though there is a mid-palate density/viscosity that suggests old vines, tart candied red fruit red apple peel kirsch liqueur-like and some faint sous bois, med- tannins and rather long finish is lifted by the acidity
-OK complexity a bit lighter than I would expect for Gouges but the acidity has kept this very fresh (and not dried out like some '08 Burgs have become) as it has reached maturity, doubt upside but no hurry either

  • Really good for the price. Transparent ruby with a bit of bricking. A bit lean, showing a bit too much acid, upon opening. Fruit fleshed out on day two turning it into a very nice wine. Precise, good acid, red fruits, just starting to show some aged flavors.

  • Exceeded my expecations, and a very good value in the context of Burgundy at $26 (bought in '15, not upon release). Upon opening there was a whiff of merde and I thought it was going to be a very barnyardy Burgundy, but that turned out to be bottle stink that blew off in 15-20 minutes. Over the following hour it blossomed into a very nice villages, with a core of wild strawberry (fraise du bois) and tarragon (to my nose anyway -- this is not an scent i usually pick up in wine) aromas envelopped in more savoury aromas such as forest floor and a hint of beef. Nicely balanced with similar flavors on the palate, albeit leaning towards a more masculine style of Burgundy (befitting the appellation). With a bit of air, this is one of the nicer villages wines I have ever had, and drinking very nicely at the moment. I suspect it will plateau for another 2-4 years, possibly longer considering that a glass and a half on day two were just as enjoyable as on day one.

  • Fruit-berry nose. Tartish mixed berry mouth-coating taste with a definite strawberry edge. Very nice now but it will last a while so there is no rush.
