A clear, deep purple, just starting to move towards a ruby. The nose is clean and pronounced, with smoke, white pepper, blackcurrant and a little jamminess. The palate is dry, medium acid, medium tannin, and a full body. flavours of blackcurrant, cloves, and dark chocolate. This has been sleeping peacefully for 11 years, and is a delight. Tannins are well integrated, and smooth. It still tastes fresh and lively, could have a few more years.

Great nose of dark fruit, chocolate and currants. The palate suggests great aging potential. The tannins are there, put relatively soft. A very long finish. I would like to try this again in a few years.

Mills Reef Elspeth vertical (Regional wines and spirits, Wellington): Still very fresh. A modest amount of pepper on the nose. Plaenty of tannin and acidity still.
