  • I have been smitten by both the '01 & '02 vintages of this wine, I suppose because they are in such great shape at over a decade old. How many wines — red or white — in this price range last this long? The color is a dark red with little browning. And while the nose seems reluctant, the flavors are full with damson plum, balanced acidity and still some tannins to persevere awhile longer. In an age when overripe, low-acid, pricy California reds, for example, blossom and fade within seemingly a fortnight, this Toro goes on and on. Super value!

Retasted 11-14-15 with Stephen Dooley, owner/winemaker of Stephen Ross Wines. He said he had never tasted a Toro. It's a rare and wonderful treat when you can educate an established winemaker. The cork disintegrated upon opening, but the wine was just as solid as a year earlier. Attests to the ageability of tempranillo-based wines when grown in the right place!

  • This Spanish red opened up after being rather tight initially. It was a good wine but a dissapointment for the price.
