Clear golden color. Nose: candied peach/pineapple, petrol (a hint of tar even), orange blossom, wet slate, and citrus peel. Medium/full body on the lightly off-dry palate: more of the candied peach/pineapple fruit combined with orange peel, slate, and a touch of petrol. Piercing, racy orange/grapefruit laced acidity balancing the slight sweetness and cutting through the moderate/long finish. Lingering citrus peel and slate. Intensely focused. Vivid and complex. Should drink beautifully over the next ten years. Superb Saar Kabinett.

Popped and poured at 12C, cooling to around 6-8. This bottle had to stand in quickly for another wine that was flawed. Despite being somewhat disjointed and flabby at the initial serving temperature, as this wine cooled it rapidly gained focus and became a crisp marriage of floral and tropical fruit flavours balanced with a rounded acidity. Residual sugar was a wee bit more perceptible than I like, and although this was enjoyable I did find it lacked some complexity. In this range I prefer the Kabinett offerings of both Schaefer and Donnhoff. 50+5+12+14+6=87.

Wine Society - A Riesling Renaissance (The Florence Hall, RIBA): Very attractive nose.
Delicious, sweet but with excellent acidity.

Drank as a pre-dinner aperitif. Wonderful - lemon nose and palate and real spritzy acidity. Sorry for another vague note.

Grosser Ring Tasting of 2007 wines from the Nahe, Mosel, Saar and Ruwer (German Embassy, London): The heavy sulphur on the nose masks anything else that might be there. Austere, fairly bright, light palate. Little to recommend it.
