Bought a 12b case for 17/b (incl all taxes and fees) at a Michael Davis auction 22+ years ago; this is #4. Decanted with normal sediment for its age. Medium purple; fragrant mature red fruit, some garrigue that follow on the palate, some dusty tannins; some persistence. Almost delicious. Of course, it has evolved, but I don't know that it was ever better: garrigue has been a constant, but it may be more balanced now. Held well over a 2-hour meal. Went well with veg pizza and meatballs with garlic pasta. Stored horizontally in a cool, dark basement since purchase. My evaluation: For me, scores on a "100-point scale" are misleading. I use a 4-category scale (perhaps with +/-)--not including flawed--which runs outstanding/notable/drinkable/poor. This is notable+ when considering quality, age, and price.

Mature. Cloudy in the decanter and olive on the nose. Tannin pretty much resolved. Fairly dry but smooth with homemade basil pesto. Certainly time to drink this up. I drank the remaining 1/2 of the bottle with guests who came for dinner 3 nights later after the wine had been recorked and put in the fridge. Still cloudy, but as this warmed and aerated in the glass, the wine really bloomed and was quite full, fruited and delicious. It clearly needed time to fill out and show its stuffing. Interesting to see just how much time and air these wines need to be at their optimal.
