  • Unfortunately, this was not a good showing. It was maderized/sherried so the flavors were masked. Very deep/rich golden with a slight copper hue. It was dissapointing as I've had better versions from Kalin and like them when they're on. Although served blind, there was no point in guessing. In a flight with 08 Boillot PM Perrieres. Paired with sea bream, jamon broth, english peas, poached egg.

  • My wife loved it. Thick, multi-layered oaken peach and pineapple candy. I thought it was slightly corked with a bit of sourness upon pouring but mellowed out with time. Kalin's corks tend to be suspect at times as they tend to crumble and have some seepage. His whites especially the Semillon in my opinion are his best wines.

  • It's very interesting and definetely the oldest california chardonnay I've tried but I don't love it. The dominant note on the nose is beeswax and the dominant flavor a very nice butterscotch. But it's a touch vinegary, sort of like apple cider vinegar, which knocks it way back for me.

  • Resembles a fine white Burgundy. Beautiful golden color that wasn't cloudy at all. Aromas of macadamia nut, dried mango, beeswax and mineral. Very expressive nose right out of the bottle. Mature and not a hard edge on this. Flavors of marshmallow, dried pineapple, dried papaya and beautiful acidity. Finished last about 30 seconds. Excellent 19 year old California Chardonnay. Drinkers looking for something different, this is it!

  • Not a fan.

If it was supposed to be a Chardonnay I would score it even lower. As an above average German Riesling Spatlese with some age, it was drinking nicely although the alcohol comes in a bit heavy at 13.8%.

WHAT?! It says Chardonnay on the bottle? How can that be? It doesn't taste anything like a Chardonnay! So that's the curious thing about this stuff. The acids have been so tamed at this point in the wine's devolution as to leave a hint of petrol on the nose and a Riesling like mess behind. The score above is for that imaginary German out there, NOT this sad Chardonnay.....

That sorry bottle I would score closer to an 83.
