  • Elegant rendition, ruby, currants, strawberry, raspberry, spice, floral notes, vanilla, integrated tannins, long finish, tasted blind, the group loved the wine, a real crowd pleaser

  • Three decades of Screaming Eagle: This was the last vintage in the original Screaming Eagle vineyard before replanting.
Very floral, salty, violets, medium bodied with a good length.

  • Thanks to a generous wine-loving friend..after bucket list DRC, Petrus, Le Pin, Masseto, Screagle and Rayas second wine time for me to try Rayas, Asteroide, Krug Mesnil. Back to Screagle…first sip immediately reminded me of Screagle Second Flight (have had the ‘07 and ‘12), or more accurately, a hypothetical cross between Second Flight and Scarecrow. Molten lava, chocolate, plum, raspberry, strawberry, toffee. 15-20 second finish. My wife kept saying “toffee”, but I also picked up red dust and earth (like Scarecrow). (No resemblance to Bevan’s Tench vineyard, which I have drank, and is right next door to Screagle). 97 in the first hour. Very balanced with no hard edges. A bit more closed with alcoholic heat in the second hour, which then dissipated. What a pleasure to drink!

  • I gave it roughly a 8 hours decant. The first sip from the decanter was pretty hot, so I set it aside for the day. But that alcohol just never really went away. It felt hotter and more oak driven than younger and older Screaming Eagle I've had. Texturally I didn't get that beautiful high energy pure mouthfeel that I associate with their wines and it was definitely missing that minerality and graphite. If I got blinded it, I'd just think it was another Cult Napa Cab.

  • Had from a bottle purchased from the winery last year for Mom's 75th. Happy Birthday Mom. 1st experience and I was just hoping to enjoy it. Forgetting the price this was a fantastic wine with a minimum of a decade left. After a few hour decant this was still showing some youthful primary dark fruits and some vanilla on the nose. I swirled for a good 20 minutes before trying and enjoyed the onset of a heavily mineral driven wine. Notes of crushed rocks and licorice came to the front. In the mouth this was still very fresh and energetic with seamless tannin integration into a long spicy finish. Full bodied but not overdone. Everything in place for a wonderful experience. Have I had better. Probably. That wasnt the point though. It was a great experience and did not disappoint.
