Decanted for 45 minutes and placed back in the bottle to had it about 2 hours later with our friends Joel and Diane.
The wine is bold, dark ruby, perfumed nose, high in tannins and acids which blackberries and minerals giving a phenomenal palate though the finish was rather decent, not as long as expected. I think time will get this fixed but I have no more of this baby I just killed.
95++ HOLD.

Nose was perfumed with some slight barnyard funk (in a good/interesting way) with red fruit, some earthy notes and a little bramble. Palate was not quite on par with the nose, but still showed plenty of red fruit (mostly currant), with leather, earth and cigar notes, coupled with hints of spice and toasted oak. I think, like the Jolie, this needs more time to fully come together.Pleasant enough now (in fact, pretty tasty), but you can tell it is capable of much more, and at the price point, you want to drink this when it is peeking for your palate. Personally, I like a nice balance between fruit and tertiary goodness, with smooth tannins and some acidity. I think this wine is capable of delivering that with some additional time. 95 today, but should pick up points with additional cellar time. I would give it at least 5 more years, and perhaps longer.

Drank as part of the Decanter at Home tasting. In general, I found these 2008’s to be a bit adolescent for my palate. They have lost the freshness of youth, but the grippy tannins and structure hasn’t completely smoothed and there is clearly more development to some. I am scoring these very conservatively and for how they are drinking today. I think I would like them better in 2028.
The La Joie had a sweet fruity and spicy nose. Blackberry and plums on the palate with Christmas pudding and grippy tannins. Long finish.
Rarities dinner “Spectacular Californians” late Nov 2021: deep rubin red color; exquisite bouquet of cassis, black berries and cherries; youthful but already well-balanced on the palate; tannic in the cheeks. 93-94/100
2008 La Muse and 2008 Le Desir were served at the same time (see my other CT tasting notes).

Deep purple still firm needs time to evve. Elegant more Bordeaux nose then California 😉 complex balco and blueberry with fine vanilla milk chocolate and roasted notes. Full bodied with silky textured tannins and vibrant long finish.
