This is a special Periquita made for celebrating 40 years in Norway. It is made in the old style, from the times when Perquita was renowned as a wine that was at its best 10-15 years old. The wine has old fashioned aromas with old barrels and cellar, in addition to red plums, prunes, mushrooms, and some liquorice after a while. On the palate the wine is light, tight and elegant with most of the fruit intact. The wine has many years ahead of it.

This is a special Periquita made for celebrating 40 years in Norway. It is said to be made in the old style, from the times when Perquita was renowned as a wine that was at its best 10-15 years old. The wine has the same oldfashioned aromas with old barrels and cellar aromas, in addition to red plums and herbs. The volatile aromas a couple of years ago were not evident now, and the wine was light, supple and elegant, with a chewy mouth feeling, like a Dao. Much better than the regular Periquita.

Enjoyed at a recent wine group tasting. This was a wonderfully funkalicious and decently complex mid bodied wine. The $9 price tag makes it an extra special QPR. I will be reviewing the 08 and 09 in the future as well since that is all that is available to me locally and I just had to pick up some more for the cellar!

Nose surprised me with cigar box. Very light colored wine. Not much body. Dried red fruit. Restrained. A little cola, leather, and tobacco, but yes, very light. A departure from the usual.

There's just no concentration of flavor. This may be a silly complaint for a $9 wine, but the 2006 vintage was so bright and juicy and delicious that this is a major let-down for me. Vegetal notes in the midpalate detracted from the light but otherwise nice fruitiness.
