Mostly Older Cabernet Franc Tasting (New Jersey, USA): One of 8 Cab Franc’s tasted at my “Mostly Older Cab Franc Tasting”… Less than pristine bottle, lots of VA bordering on vinegar. Only a little bricking but some vegetal and chocolate notes, drinkable but not pleasant.

My last bottle, which has improved immensely in 5 years. Floral and dark fruit nose, blackberry on the palate. Velvety on the palate. Worth holding for nearly 6 years. A real deal at $10!!

Last of my two bottles. This one seemed a bit better than the prior one 8 months ago. Has a complex nose of plums, sous bois, and violets. Medium-bodied, tart and tangy, offering a juicy mouthful of blackberry and dark currant fruit that is intensely focused. There's tremendous depth to the back palate. The mouth-watering finish is moderately long, with silky tannins and hints of oak, chalk and just a touch of vanilla. Polished and delicious. 50+5+12+15+7=89

This has a very earthy nose, which also shows hints of plum, vanilla and spice. Medium-bodied, offering tart, tangy flavors of blackberry and currant. The dry, crisp finish features lots of chalkiness along with a stony minerality. Best served slightly chilled, this is a real treat if you are a fan of Cab Franc. Excellent value too at just $10. 50+5+11+15+7=88

Thin and mild. Meh. Barely drinkable.
