A heck of a buy a few years ago. This ruby wine that is turning to amber at the rim is full of red fruit, caned peaches and dill. Mature, with tobacco and cream. I have one more bottle that must be consumed soon. The tobacco is overtaking the fruit by a hair - enjoy this now for a classic experience. (91)

Monthly Tasting Group EEE #069: Spain; Rioja (@ EO): In the bouquet truffle, vanilla, rust, cold coffee and tea. Same on the palate. Mushrooms and other autumn impressions. Oak and dark chocolate. The tannin is drying. Very mature wine.

Bottle was showing minor signs of leaking so we drank it. Cork was in tough shape but was able to remove all of it with durand. Classic old rioja nose that continued to develop in the glass, fruit still there with a nice earthy roudness. If well stored, this should continue to keep for some time, but whats the upside?

Light brick in color that seeps to an amber rim. There is unexpected power to the nose: mature, stewed fruits and dill. There is energy and sweetness to the aroma that really lifts up this mature wine. Likewise, the palate is mature, yet fresh. I admit to loving old wine and this bottle is a great example of why. The light mouth feel coupled with mature sweet earthy flavors is a winner in my book. Food wine extraordinaire. Just loving this batch of mature Rioja. So alive. (93)

This really opened up over the evening to yield a very nice wine. Lots of fruit still present with everything in balance.
