Wine Workshop: Focus on Clos Rougeard (Cafe Evergreen): Really great although my notes at this point in the day were not quite as detailed. This was old school, brambly, structured. It does see some new oak which was interesting because this feels like one of those wines that is all about the purity of the fruit. Delicious.

This is magnificent. Unquestionably the best Cabernet Franc I have ever tasted. From the first whiff it’s impressive, and the palate matches. Rose, spice, long, delineated and precise. Would be a provocative ringer in a Grand Cru Burgundy tasting.

Terroir Tuesday at Table, Donkey and Stick (Clos Rougeard) (Chicago, IL): My receipt for this says $100. Ah, those were the days. A fantastic bottle of cabernet franc that would answer the question of what would cabernet franc taste like if Thierry Allemand made it? There is a generous smoky tone on the nose, as well as plenty of fruit that is still very fresh. The green pepper emerges more as a green herb tone than like biting into an actual bell pepper. The palate's texture is what gets me though -- it's just so silky and luxurious. Then there's all the light (but potent) fruit, earth, and herbal notes, with a sweetness from the fruit that gives this a very pleasing roundness as well. Absolutely lovely. My favourite wine tonight, followed by the 09 Poyeux.

Birthday Clash (MG): Not blind One wine after the Les Clos 2005 from Clos Rougeard that was served blindly. A bit more concentration and fruit. Elegant with a lot of precision in the finish. Not really a lack of acidity but I had some Le Bourg with more freshness. 94-95

Nez de fraises mures, cedar wood, very ripe nose, leger poivron mûr... Enorme acidité, groseilles, très fin et très leger en bouche.
