Given to me as a gift from a friend. PnP tonight out of the cellar. Clear, with medium ruby color, fading to a pale rim, showing a nice bit of age on this Zin. The nose is in good condition, showing developing aromas that are medium in intensity, including bright red cherry and red plum notes, with a bit of black pepper, and a citrus zest in the upper register. The palate reveals a dry wine, medium in body, with med(+) alcohol (14.5% abv), with med intensity flavors of red and black cherry, a bit of raspberry, a nice but light pepper spice, and another hint of citrus-like zest as the med level of acidity swoops in, keeping this wine fresh and bright. The tannins are med/med(-) at this point, and are supple and well integrated, leading into the med length, red-fruited finish. This is a nice, mature RRV Zin, offering up straightforward red fruits and fairly bright acidity for this varietal. It is a good quality wine, drinking well right now, and will continue to do so for the next 2-3 years, but will no longer improve with additional age. Really good juice, probably not worth the $40 price tag, however...IMHO.
