  • Cool climate style on show here as this was relatively light-bodued for a Shiraz Cab blend.
Fresh red and black fruit characters with a slight barnyard/fungal note developing over time.

  • Appearance: Bright and clear, it is deep ruby color, with fading rims and legs.
Nose: Clean, with medium intensity aromas of black fruit of cassis, plum and bilberry, pungent spice of pepper and licorice, oak notes of vanilla, floral notes of violet, kernel notes of chocolate, mineral notes of graphite. The wine is developing.
Palate: Dry with medium acidity, the wine has high tannin of ripe but a bit grippy on texture, with medium alcohol and full body, medium intensity flavors of black fruit of blackberry and plum, oak notes of vanilla, herbal notes of eucalyptus, pungent spice of pepper. The wine has a medium (+) finish.
Conclusion: Very good quality Australian Shiraz blend with reasonably intense nose of good complexity, mostly with black fruit but also showing plenty of syrah varietal characters, the wine has a robust palate, with good tannin but a bit too grippy still. The flavors are reasonably concentrated, with also a fairly long finish. It is ready to drink now and can further develop for another 3-5 years.

  • A Matter of Taste: London Edition (Saatchi Gallery, Chelsea): Not really integrated yet but has the elements to make a lovely but very powerful wine. Need to try it again in another 5 years.

  • Not sure what to say about this...popped and poured and consumed over 6 hours. Strong graphite/menthol note coming off the cab franc, with just a hint of lozenge/spice from the shiraz on the nose. Palate very awkward, which I put down to youth and as-yet-incomplete integration of all the elements of this wine which are undoubtedly very interesting. There is good red fruit dominated by sour cherry on the front palate, and a dense mid palate of violets with a near-metallic tang from the cab franc and a big tannic finish. Sitting here smelling my now-empty glass and contemplating all this, I think I can see where it is going, but it is going to take some time. Will wait until 2015 before opening another.
