Medium garnet/ruby color; a fascinating explosion of dried cherry/licorice/orange peel/toffee flavors gently assail the palate, followed by medium sweetness and grip and a very long finish. Everything a classic port should be, and at its peak. Amazingly, I was able to obtain this bottle at auction for a reasonable $140 USD but they're getting tougher to find every year. I have three other personal tasting notes for this wine dating back to 2007; a "96" is my highest rating for it. If you can find it, drink it.

Great out of the bottle. Decanted and improved a lot. Light red color. Notes of Carmel, chocolate, and luscious fruit. Tastes like a dream of smooth ultra tasty treats.

This was my first experience with vintage port. My guests did not like it due to the overwhelming nose of alcohol. The fruit was deep and dark and wonderful, but it was not as smooth as I would have expected for a 36 year old port. I decanted it for about 8 hours and the alcohol was still strong. I should have opened it the day before.
