More true to Bandol type than the previous bottle about 4 years ago, if I believe my then TN. Aromas and fruit quite round and rich with rose petal overtones, notes of old book and tar, decent acidity and backbone on the quite long finish. Very good.

Different from most Bandol I drink; more ruby in colour, sweeter, fruitier, more alcoholic (15%), less herbal and mineral; more like S.Rhône, in fact, I guess due to the presence of a lot of Grenache. The bouquet was sweet, plum influenced, fruit with a liqueur touch. The body was full/medium, the quite sweet fruit was dark complexioned with a touch of rose scent together with tar and liquorice notes, the acidity was decent and the finish was firm, dark, liqueur tinged and slightly hot. Good wine but less classy than the likes of Tempier and Pibarnon.

A strongly medicinal smell on opening but this reduced as the wine aerated and warmed up from cellar temperature. Despite a friendly match of herbed lamb shoulder the wine was just a little OTT at 15% abv. Not as interestingly herbaceous (garrigue?) as the different vintage I had from the same domaine. Will leave my other bottle of 2001 for a few years yet.
