At Walter's to watch the NFL conference championship games. Walter opened this bottle two hours before consumption. Dark in color with dark fruit on the nose. Walter says "black raspberries". I agree but I'm also getting some sweet dark cherries and black currants. In the background, there is leather, roasted meats along with a nuance of hoi sin. After 17 years, I was initially concerned about it's prime, but some tannin still remained with a tad of chalkiness on the finish. Will certainly go a few more years. Delicious wine that went well with our rotisserie chicken and roasted potatoes.

The nose was dark and inviting with dried currant and cherry, fall leaves and a hint of citrus peel. On the palate, it started rich with dried dark-red fruit yet quickly turned juicy and fresh, as engaging acidity made the mouth water, adding exotic spice and inner floral tones to the mix. Fine tannin dried out and shortened the finish slightly, yet a lasting note of dried florals and tart berry lingered.

The Traveling Brisket and Helmet Show: black fruit and ripe sweet note on the nose. riper mid than the rioja and showing its youth. Day 3: this is starting to come around with some leather notes on the nose. a bit of that funky sweet aroma of vanilla and meat. mid is full of black fruit but with a good core of acidity. tannins still there - showing rather young. good bite of tobacco and herbs on the finish. excellent but young wine. i would hold or decant (majority of the note is on day 3!)

Drinking very well right now, nicely balanced, good fruit, tannins are well integrated. Quite enjoyable.
