Dark purple/brown color, soft aroma. Subtle first taste, dry, dark fruits, hint of licorice and spice, very light tannins. Soft finish medium linger, no earthy barny taste. Ok, but not excellent- doubt it will get better.

This was accessible upon opening. Smooth and velvety. Others liked it better than me, but I thought (compared to the 2010) it was slightly subdued. Delicious nonetheless.

Top Bordeaux 2nd Wines with Jane Anson (Virtual 67 Pall Mall - replay): 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot Red ripe fruit, and graphene on the nose. Compared to the first wine, lighter in body, slightly higher in acidity, less dense tannins. However, overall silky maybe even opulent. This wine is fully open and ready to drink.

Gave it about 2 hours in the glass which was sufficient. Fully resolved (and dare I say, sweet) tannins, intensely aromatic nose of smoke and cherry jam, an elegant mouthfeel with a velvety finish. Another testament to the magic of the 2005 vintage. If I were to nitpick, the finish was a bit short which is to be expected from younger vine bottlings. This was a good back-vintage value find.

Decanted in glass about 39 minutes. Dark fruit and some mild spice on the nose, maybe a bit of earthiness too. Flavor was muted dark fruit and forest floor, a little smoke and wood. Drank over 90 minutes and it mellows even more with shallow fruit but more pronounced smoke and earthiness. Served with roasted rack of lamb and mushroom risotto. An exceptional bottle! 3 more to go over the next 10 years.
