  Dark magenta robe with hints of purple. Nose of barnyard, straw, rocks and a bit of pepper. Barnyard dominates. Modest palate of cherries, violets, and crushed rock. Hints of savoriness. Easy velvet tannins. Lighter body and good acidity to accentuate the crushed rock on the finish. Despite all check marks here, nothing vaults it into another class, not much to put it above the Crozes of the plains and clearly into a Crozes of the granite hills. Very Good.

  Opens with what seems like a bit of light bandaid brett, though not obtrusive; a dense, deep, brooding palate of dark blackberry fruit, with a nice higher register note of acidity for lift, some moderately rustic tannins, and a bit of an abrupt finish. There's some good components here, but it needs time to show whatever it's going to become. Revisit in 5 years.

  This Rhone is blended by Kermit Lynch with a dark red shade and a nose of dark fruit, graphite, barn yard, and smoked meat. The palate shows big fruit and very firm long tannin on the finish. This is a tasty Rhone blend and a good value as well.

  Medium body, medium dark ruby color. This definitely needs a little air to show its stuff, with a good dose of deep, earthy, woodsy raspberry fruit, hint of strawberry, nice overall balance with fine tannins and good acidity. Presumably syrah based, but has the feeling of a good dose of grenache.
  
  24 hours later: OK, no question this is syrah now, some of the woodiness has faded, red fruit has turned more to the blue/black end of the spectrum, there some nice dusty tannins here. No blockbuster, for sure, this is reserved and tight, but drinking very nicely. If you're looking for a high quality syrah with character and restraint, this is an excellent choice.
