En Primeur tasting. Very ripe, powerful and firmly structured. Massively backward and brooding. I expect this will need at least a decade to provide pleasure, possibly longer, but the structure is certainly there to achieve balance someday. My friends enjoyed this much more than I did today.

Tasted at En Primeur tasting for the 2003s. Simple, a bit too tannic for the fruit, but will work well with food. Drink 2008-2012 while still fresh. 83-85 point potential.

Tasting at the domaine. Intense spice aromatic start atypical for Sauternes. Honeycomb, apricot - fresh and dried - throughout with some pineapple on finish. Long, very elegant finish. Very cellarworthy.

En primeur tasting, brief note. Still completing fermentation, so there is a tough aromatic start, but with interesting fruit density for an inexpensive Sauternes.

En primeur tasting. Finishing fermentation, so cloudy/ yeasty. Great fruit, length and depth are clear. Tough to tell if this will get particularly complex. but I expect 92-93 point potential.

En primeur tasting. Big aromatic start that implied a ripe and unctuous wine. Full bodied, but moderate length. I'm told Suduiraut often takes time, and I expect this will be true in 2003. 90-92 point potential.

Tasting at winery. Some tropical fruit aromatic hints along with citrus. More austere palate that comes across as sharp and austere. Lots of energy, but this is an Hermitage blanc that will require a good decade+ to soften and integrate.

Tasting at winery. Rustic, barnyard aromas and flavors that didn't work well for me. Lots of earth coming through already. Drink soon if this bottle is representative.

Tasting at winery. First vintage for this wine not being produced just from the lieu-dit. Reductive to start and tough to assess, with a somewhat unfriendly character today. Not accessible with some coarse edges I didn't really enjoy.

Tasting at winery. Massive black fruit aromas with great spice- cloves, black pepper, licorice. Ripe and forward fruit on palate with big blackberry and blueberry. Long evolving finish with lots of structure. Should be very exciting 2010-2030.

Tasting at winery. Floral nose with stone fruit aromas. Palate seemed a bit shut down at first, but opened up with peach, honey and then good mineraility from middle to end. A rare Condrieu that I think will benefit from cellar age.

Tasting at winery. Nice floral nose, good spice and red fruit on palate. Comes across as rather rustic, the tannins overwhelm the fruit for now. I'd hold this for at least 4 years and hope more fruit comes out to stand up to the dominating structure.

Tasting at winery. Floral nose, much like the 2000, but with much better fruit when first tasted. Blackberry and black cherry flavors with really nice pepper on the finish. Tannins are a bit front-and-center today, this has the fruit to nicely balance in a couple of years. I'd hold this to at least 2008 or later to hit its full stride.

Ripe black cherry and blackberry on nose and palate, but earthy mushroom flavors were a bit more dominant. Still tannic from middle to finish, with fruit starting to fade to the end. Still, refreshing to have a Burgundy after several days of 2003 Bordeaux en Primeur.

Dinner in the Rhone. Concentrated fruit with massive spice explosion on the nose. Dark fruit with incredible extraction from start to finish. Wine was tight for a few hours, but came out of its shell with lots of power. Enormous long finish, I'd give this at least 5 years, probably 10+ years to reach its zenith.

Dinner in Rhone. Huge floral nose with ripe black and blue fruit. Incredible spice and black pepper, most noteworthy on the somewhat extravagant finish. Very feminine and balanced for a Côte-Rôtie this young.
