A tasting of every vinage of Trevallon's red wine from 1981 to 2003. No 2002 was produced owing to excesive rain / flooding.
A fascinating look at just over two decades of one wine. Lovely stuff, quite Southern Rhone but ultimately quite difficult to pigeon-hole. Needs a decade even in light vintages, and the best ones nearer twenty.
1984 Domaine de Trévallon
France, Provence, Les Baux-de-Provence
Mid garnet; quite spicy nose, some garrigue. Still quite fresh and together, then starts to fade a little with acidity coming to the fore, but still very decent for an 84. Lovely nose. Getting a bit thinner and acidic after being open for an hour. **1/2 with a ***1/2 nose. After a bit longer this develops an interesting coffee-cream nose that then intensifies to ridiculous proportions - just like sniffing a synthetic coffee-cream choc. This is less endearing.

1987 Domaine de Trévallon
France, Provence, Les Baux-de-Provence
Similar colour to 84, possibly a little fuller. Slightly riper nose, sweet fruit. A bit more Musar-like nose. Slightly spritzy with a sweetish finish. Musar-like palate too. ***
