Drank next to the 2000 Trevallon, much more austere and lacking fruit. On the nose it’s dusty with a hint of red plums, a touch too alcoholic. Ok but not great.

BYO at Ariana II (Ariana II, Kilburn): I think we caught this at a super stage in its development: a nice cool balance overall with a certain richness to the ripe red fruit, roast herbs and forest floor, grilled meat. A bit of everything going on. Satisfyingly dry and gastronomic on the palate, balanced with saturated dark fruit and grippy clay tannins still going strong. A great match for food.

In a great spot. Showing initially stronger cab influence, the longer this stayed open the more balanced it became. Decant definitely recommended, this smoothed out showing great expression for the age and a velvet mouthfeel that went on and on.
Garnet and broad bricky rim. From the start it shows a high to medium intens nose and palate with olives, cedar, licorice, herbs, truffles, red fruit most akin to cherries or cherry brandy. It is light on its feet and not as concentrated as the grape varieties might suggest. This is, as trevallon alwyas is, one more for those looking for elegance than for power. Still with considerable tannin levels. Besides the colour it seems young and in a cool cellar it will hold through for some years and maybe a decade. -2025+ 5/13/18/9
