Outstanding wine. Pristine bottle and fill. Tobbaco and olive, dark fruits with a hint of raspberry, violet and cedar. Perfect balance and show impressive concentration on the mid palate for its age. Resolved tannins and velvety texture.

First red of the tasting and it's obviously an old wine, with some browning around the edges. Initially a bit coarse and dusty with cold tea flavors, this grew over the next 20 mins or so. A touch of medicine and forest on the nose, gentle strawberry came through and it ended up a lovely mature wine. Drink up, but worth buying if you can find a well stored bottle.

Drank at less celebrated French wine Wimps. A real surprise. !982 and '83 are legendary wines, but this should be included. A lovely sweet nose, with very smokey and later tarry tones. Well balanced and savory in the mouth, good acidity and length. Our wine of the day by some way.

Domaine de Trevallon (Rouge) Offline (Alba, London): Very Northern Rhone. Nicely mushroomy, smokey fruit nose. Garrigue, savory, smokey fruit on palate. Olives. lovely acidity. Like a mature Hermitage. ****1/2
