2015 M. Chapoutier Côtes du Roussillon Villages Les Vignes de Bila-Haut $13

Ah-ight Bob, you made me go to wine-searcher for the above bottle. I have two local shops carrying that producer; one from 2015, the other 2016. I think I'll grab both and try them side by side.

I missed the opportunity to buy their (more expensive) Occultum Lapidem (temporary moratorium a few years ago). If you find/try that, I'd be interested in any thoughts. The basic Bila-Haut is still a good bargain to me, although it has gone up 50% since I first bought it in Canada

2012 C.V.N.E. (Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España) Rioja Viña Real Reserva - $15 at our local Costco. Youthful, friendly, satisfying, down-the-middle Rioja.

Ages like a dream too. Had the 2005 a few weeks ago, which is still incredibly young, just starting to broaden out and add a little complexity. Probably going to be great in another 5-10 years.

2006 Paul Mathew TNT Vineyard Russian River Valley Pinot. $10 on secondary market. Remarkably youthful for an 11 yr old pinot from a warm climate.

Fruity. Bit of earth. A bit lacking in acidity, relative to Burgundy. But quite decent juice for the price of a hamburger.

2010 Ch. Roquevieille, Castillon Cote de Bordeaux.
A lot like some of the St Emilions I've had lately.
I went back and bought the last 4 bottles.

2016 Terre Haute Rouge, from a local vineyard here called Point of View. It's really good stuff.

2016 Chateau Fontareche VV
60% Roussanne and 40% White Grenache

My first bottle from a case bought through Grapes TWC in White Plains NY...for $10/btl.
Nose is light, green apple, lemon, wet rocks
These grapes produce a wonderful, mouth coating texture that reminds me of a Ermitage L'Oree with a bit of a brighter edge to it.
Clearly not for Chard lovers.
Taste is a bit of citrus, under ripe pear (not sweet), mineral.
Finish has a bit of grip to it that's not exactly acidic...trying to decided if it adds or detracts.
Great QPR!

Virgen del Aguila Artigazo 2007 is up on WTSO right now (6:15PM EST 12-22) for $14.99. It's a good buy, worth a bulk purchase.

TJ's reserve brut rose bubbly. Lively, clean, tasty, really good for $9.99. I am not someone who goes for bubbly very often, but we've gone through a few bottles of this over the last few days, and it's a solid budget drinker.

Have yet to find a 15.00 bottle that I like . No idea how they do it as a good bottle of Cherry juice goes for over 14.00 here and all they do is crush and filter . I'll try a few reccomended here , maybe I'll find something .

This is currently reduced to $8.99 at Costco. Just picked up a couple more along with some of the $6.99 Cabriz Colheita Seleccionada as cellar defenders.

Milbrandt Traditions Cab Sauv 2012, under $13 at Total Wine. This was our second bottle. At the price, a decent enough Cab from Columbia Valley, WA.

2005 Arrowood Estate Malbec, $15 on secondary market. A bit riper and oakier than I am used to. But nice juice nonetheless. Good mix of fruit and earth. Silky tannins.

Found in Hawaii Costco

Gonnet Le Reveur Cotes du Rhone 2015
Boulon Beaujolais Vieilles Vignes 2016

Both $6.99. I've always expected to have to pay a small premium in the islands, so don't know if they would be cheaper on the mainland but think it unlikely

Has anyone else noticed that Costco is a hotbed for good yet cheap wine?

I check Costco periodically as I still have a gift card w/balance. Some of the Kirkland label is decent and well-priced based on my experience. They used to have Cameron Hughes but not so much in our local store anymore.

Some of the other wines I have seen priced more competitively elsewhere locally. Would not generalize, but I view w/caution.

Cheers!

Both true; some outstanding buys and some so-so - and stock varies significantly by individual store

Our Costco here never gets any of the great deals one sees in California Costcos.

A great resource for Costco members (or those thinking about joining) is costcowineblog.com. A guy started it as a lark and it's grown quite a bit. Great niche idea, just reviewing wines that are for sale at one store. And most of what he reviews is under $15.

My only gripe with it is that it's too rare that he really dings a wine. I don't think he's in the tank for them but it wouldn't completely surprise me if he turned out that he's got some kind of arrangement with them. Maybe he just doesn't bother posting reviews of the ones he doesn't like?....

Recently had an under $15 that was given to us over Christmas.

Leese-Fitch cabernet sauvignon.

My advise: avoid

Not worth $5, much less $15. Just dreadful.

LOL There is some really horrible wine out there. Went to see Tommy Castro at a local venue last night and they people in front of us were putting their red wines on out table. No idea what it was but it smelled terrible and $10 a glass. Even my wife said to me, " you smell that wine". I told her most likely the bottle didn't cost $10. I can't even do Happy Hour wine. I stick to beer. It's tough being a wine snob.
