9/27/2023 - t.c.green Likes this wine: 90 pointsJust a little beyond its peak. Opened and let it breathe for an hour. Still a very good balance of fruit and tannins, but feeling a bit muted at this time. Still wish I had more bottles |

3/10/2023 - empire80 Likes this wine: 91 pointsAmazing for its age, there's still some gently stewed fruit in there, with some tobacco and (clean) barnyard. Very developed and mature with lots going on, and certainly not about to fall over. |

Well past it’s best. Nice brick coloured rim but tasted of sherry. Also had the sauerkraut aftertaste I dislike in some red wines. GBP70 |

I don't know what this might have been like several years ago but at the moment it has subdued fruit, maybe a bit of a herbal note, restrained (limited?) nose. An acceptable backdrop to a grilled rack of lamb but not a wine that you'd pay attention to. |

12/28/2021 - SimonG wrote: 87 pointsBrown. Brown sugar, maderised nose. More vibrant and alive on the palate, good glycerin weighted texture, smooth with bright acidity giving line to the finish. Revives a bit with an hour or so of air with some vestiges of fruit returning. Not the most complex or interesting, but just about surviving and with enough to make it worth persevering with. Good with grouse. *** |

8/5/2021 - SoundinBetween wrote: NRVibrant ruby color with nice depth, this was ultimately like a very fully mature Cotes du Rhone with no flash or pizzaz. A hint of prune on the nose and palate but did not taste raisinated. Some earth, very flat palate with no pronounceable finish. Easily 15-25 years past peak, even in one of the best ever CdP vintages. Could not determine cepage, either Grenache, Cinsault, Clairette Blanc, or GSM in some %. |

5/31/2021 - J'agnes Likes this wine: 90 pointsLooks like this has been recorked at the chateau? Colour is definite brick red with a clear rim. Nose initially was barnyard for sure - initially merde but later more well rotted straw. Definite baroloesque VA developed over time. Delicate palate - fruit still there - initially quite firm tannin but then evolved into a stewed fruit soft tannin vibe.Tasting blind I would probably say Barolo. Great wine for its vintage - 1971 WTF! |

9/16/2018 - acyso wrote: 88 pointsVinetasters: Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Skokie, IL): Served double blind. Dried dates on the nose. Earthy, with a slight bit of funk. The attack on the palate is fairly intense, but it does taper off quite quickly. Tannins are a bit hard on this wine as well. Not as powerful and potent as some of the other wines, but just a large structure that doesn't have too much flesh. My 9th, group's 2nd. |

It has a vinous sweetness on the palate and good savoury nuance. Tannins have all but melted away and there's a gentle kiss of acidity keeping the finish fresh and vibrant. |

12/6/2016 - OenophilistMN Likes this wine: 79 pointsAt a CNP tasting of wines at least 20+ years old. Old CNPs can be drinkable, but I believe they go in and out of drinking windows, and generally do not think they show well in Summer. Hence the December tasting. Bowl was amber in the center, brick orange around it, and caramel at the rim. Wide clear rim around it. Nose was very muted. Dried plums heading towards prunes, plenty of cedar and a touch of barnyard that blew off after awhile. In the mouth, the wine had begun to dry out, was dusty, some dried blueberry therein and the ever-present cedar. The finish started ok but then ended astringently. With cedar-grilled salmon or the like, this wine would still work. Time to face the music and drink or keep it as a souvenir. Still, 45 years and still alive is impressive. |

1/10/2014 - PIntag wrote: 93 pointsDrank absolutely beautifully. Cork in good condition. Gorgeous nose with a little bit of that old world funk that you just don't see in domestic wines. On the palate, beautiful mature CdP with just about fully resolved tannins, no heat, silky mouthfeel and perfectly balanced. This seems to be peaking right now. |
