Decanted for 1-2 hours as we dove into it.....similar to past bottles. What is very intriguing is that it does not degrade at any point through the night over 5-6 hours of air. It's light in the glass, light on its feet and just beautiful cherry, licorice and leather on the palate. What great qpr with this one........

This bottle was incredible, leather, tobacco, anise, raspberries. A long finish. Just a great wine. Hope my last bottle lives up to this one (previous bottle was flawed).

Lys mot medium granatrød. Delikat og moden Barolo på den lettere siden. Roser, lær og deilige, mineralske toner av våt jord og skogbunn. Frisk og lang finish med avslepte tanniner.

At ten years old, this is drinking smooth and subtle and I am on my last bottle of this 2012 vintage - which seems Drinking Up time. Quite light but full-falvoured.

Everything is very mild , floral/herbal with accent on pine nuts/bree. Tannins resolved. A bit too much acidity for my taste but all together a very clean and fresh wine. With food acidity goes away. To me this is what a good old Italian feels like. This would rival a good 25y/o Bordeaux.

really nice, mature Barolo! Light bricking, as others have mentioned. Minimal decant, and surprisingly almost no sediment. Warm, inviting nose red fruit, roses, leather, earth, and spice. Quite supple and interesting on the palate, with some breadth, good fruit (but not front and center), fine, fully resolved tannins, and a medium finish. This is quite good, drink now.

Pretty consistent with my last note on this one....cork still crumbles even when using an ah-so. Maybe a hint more bricking and lightening of the wine further. The nose and palate remain intact with great cherry fruit and leather, maybe a hint of anise as well. Still needs 2 hours to fully open and meld together. Some left in the bottle to try tomorrow.

2nd night: not much change surprisingly. Cork in bottle left in the cellar at 56-60 degrees.....it's held together fairly well with perhaps just smelling/feeling a tad older than last night, with the extended air in bottle.

Mark had given me this bottle previously and I thought the people I was meeting up with tonight would appreciate it (they did!!)

I always thought of this as a modern style barolo but my dinner companions didn’t agree. It is big and fruity, tannins are soft and well integrated. Regardless it was delicious, drinking similarly to my last note so I won’t score again. Paired nicely with duck Ragu and pappardelle pasta.

I decanted it for two hours at home and then it had another two in bottle before we drank it. It was open and ready to go.

It is only a Langhe but it drank wonderfully. Perfectly aged. Rose and tar present, but also some classic Bordeaux notes (given the grape composition). Food friendly and really solid. Wish I had more.

Leather and earth. Some minerals on night 1. Held up well over 48 hrs open, less nuanced by night 2 though. Very good.

Fairly modern Barolo that seemed to show almost claret-like notes of leather and tobacco. Bigger fruit profile that gave a few hints of over-ripeness, but not quite pruny or jammy.

Still an enjoyable drink and decent value for the $35 I paid, but I think it's time to drink these up.

Ondanks 20 jaar op de teller zeer lekker. Qua kleur al vrij geëvolueerd zonder op geur en smaak te hebben ingeboet.
Mooi rond en evenwichtig. Topwijntje voor bij de ragout van everzwijn.
Helaas laatste fles.

A gift from a neighbor, I was not sure what to expect. A slight bricking on the edges of an otherwise pale purple sheen. On the nose, a beautiful bouquet of mushroom, cherry and bacon. On the palate, strawberry, cherry and upfront tannins. The mid palate reveals more cherries, but darker this time. The tannins are really starting to grip and the wine finishes very dry indeed. The gaminess I sensed on the nose has all but disappeared, taken over by brutish tannins. This is not a delicate wine, nor is it very fruit forward anymore. But it is good. In its own way, this wine exudes power and poise at the expense of fruit and finesse. I am going with 91 points for this $50 wine. 4 stars.

Deep purple-black in the glass. Big, hot nose of black cherry and plum jam, tobacco leaf and raisiny alcohol. Rich palate of blackcurrant and blueberry. Nicely integrated tannins at this age and a long, languid finish of of jam, balsamic and dried herbs. I'm sure this wine was a fruit-bomb beast when it was young, but age as calmed it into a really lovely Barbera. 91

Good stuff! My first time tasting aged Barolo, so I can't compare it to others, but this was really nice. I found it on Wine Access and wondered why it was so affordable ($35), but decided to give it a try and I'm glad I did.

Pale garnet, almost tawny. Aromatics of leather and earth at first, and then sweet floral notes, tobacco, and cherry. Tannin was rather soft and acidity had mellowed. A little licorice midpalate, with a long finish.

Overall, I could taste in this wine a lot of what I had merely read before about tertiary flavors that come with age. I'm lucky to have snagged this and recommend you grab it if you come across it.

(Oh, and we sprang for some truffle oil and made truffle risotto with piave vecchio with this. REALLY nice pairing!)

My last bottle. Opened about 45 minutes before dinner but didn’t decant. Paired with ravioli, marinara and meatballs. The aroma changed quite rapidly over time. Showing exceptionally well tonight. Violets, tar, “old books” on the nose. The palate is well-balanced with soft tannins and sharp acidity. Long finish.

Checking in on this 20 year old with braised short ribs and pappardelle, and it's still drinking well and a great pairing. Tannins are pretty integrated now, though now that I'm past dinner and standalone sipping, I'm getting a little grip. Bricking garnet color with transparency. Aromas of roses, tar, fennel, dry spices, black tea, and maple syrup. Medium (+) body, acid, and finish, with flavors of high toned red fruits, lemon, orange peel, spice, and minerals. This is a great wine, although I'm not quite as high on it as the last bottle 8 years ago.

Mark shared this bottle and we drank during a zoom tasting. I agree 100% with his note below. This Barolo is perfectly in its drinking window and drinking well with minimal decant. The tannins have completely softened, the fruit is still very much present and all the classic Nebbiolo aromas and flavors—rose, cherries, tar, leather, savory slightly meaty. Just so good and just as good on day 2. This was a great find.

Classic Nebbiolo for my first try......on the pnp the cork turned to dust and had to be extracted with care and in pieces and with a finer to prevent particles in the wine. Classic leather and rose petals on the nose, cherries on the palate with gentle spice notes. A waft of ether that changed to camphor over an hour. Chalky, dry mouthfeel with slight bricking to the color of this 20 yo wine. It remains consisten over 4-5 hours from decant til through the Jen/HMC tasting tonight. By the end of the glass a certain savory, smokiness emerged and was quite profound shoving the cherries to the background. Nice wine, would be even better with food.
