3/31/2024 - learningandenjoying Likes this wine: 93 pointsSide by side with '07. This '09 immediately showed great color and brightness in all aspects with no signs of its nearly 15 years of age. Red berry freshness made this the initial favorite with just enough earthiness to ensure its Burgundy roots. Rounded out with some faint cinnamon and general Pinot spice. This held court through the first hour until the '07 started to wake up and show all of what makes a mature Grand Cru all the rage. The '09 remained steady, but did not quite get past where it started. I suspect this could easily go another 5 years, whereas the '07 is at peak. |

Just a bit of funk upon opening and otherwise initial low aromatics. Interestingly, after about an hour in bottle, each successive 2-3 oz. pour just seemed to get better, including aromatics that came forward. Nice earthiness, spice, and deep character. This was a solid wine once it got going. Really beautiful qualities of an aged Grand Cru Burg. On the net, it scores just a bit under the '09, but the last sips of this really made you want more, whereas with the '09 it was OK for it to be finished. 92+ |

Floral nose brings a variety of red flowers, anise, and cinnamon spices. The palate is medium, round, and supple, bringing a formidable combo of blue and red fruit intermixed with some tea, smoke, and orange peel into the finish. I found this a tad too jammy and sweet for my palate - to the point of being distracting - but willing to give this a few more years to even out since it was a ripe vintage and has a good backbone. Drink 2026-2032. Technical score: 91. Enjoyment score: 89. |

After a two decant, still young, but raspberry, blackberry. Still quite tight, very good acidity. Classy wine and unfortunately my last one of this vintage. Can see this improving over 5-10 years. |
