A very pleasant surprise. Stood upright for a couple of weeks. Cork out for 5 hrs., decant 1 hr. Dark color, no bricking. Nose of plum, leather, chocolate, black currant. Well balanced on the palate, with very good length.

Wish I had more!

I messed up the cork, but the wine was clear, beautiful garnet. Burst of red fruits on the nose. Full and tall in the mouth, with very good length.
Excellent bottle.

Stood upright for a month or so. Uncorked 4 hrs. ahead, 45 min. decant. Rather a lot of sediment. Deep nose of black fruits, fresh tobacco, leather, and winter spices. On the palate fresh, with good acidity, tannins there but softened, and long.

Very nice with a corn fed chicken with lemon, rosemary, and garlic, cornbread, and fresh green beans.

Had been standing up for 3 weeks. Perfect cork. Opened 4 hrs. ahead, then 1 hr. decant. Deep nose of tobacco, leather, iron and blue/blackberry.
Quite a bit of backbone on the palate. Tannic core, but not aggressive. Enjoyed with prosciutto di parma and cheeses and a favorite: "The Lion in Winter".

This is the very best 10€ wine I've ever had. I got 3 a couple of years ago. The first was good, fun, but weak. This is just wonderful. Gorgeous aromatics, with plum, tart cherry, and a hint of caramel. On the palate it is bright, and the acidity is refreshing. The finish is not stupendously long, but long enough, finishing with that cherry plus a hint of tobacco.

Shitey year, I know, but a really lovely bottle.

From the moment I popped the cork and had a little sip this was stellar.
It was immediately so fresh, fragrant, and full that I put the cork back in. One hour before dinner I decanted. Although the roast beef was a bit of a disappointment, the green beans and potatoes were great, and the wine was truly fantastic. Old school producer, Very deep and layered.

Stood up for a couple of days. 3-hr decant. A small sip shows a tightly-wound, brooding, big-shouldered wine. With dinner (beef wellington, potato gratin with emmentaler, and flat green beans)and in a bigger glass it comes together very nicely. Still remarkably fresh, with full aromatics, and a full but refreshing feel on the palate. Good tannins with some velvet.

Stood up in the cellar for a few days. Gave the bottle a slight chill. Cork came out perfectly. Slight bricking. Very aromatic, and had a slight sweetness in the nose. Good backbone, but a softness (NSG??) too. Full and velvety in the mouth. Long, and with an ever so slight caramel touch.

My last of these, and very enjoyable in a comfy way.

Stood up for a couple of days. Pulled the cork 4 hrs. in advance.

Very full color with slight bricking. Rich and a bit gamey (not stinky) in the nose. Full and soft on the palate, but still with a tannic spine. Seems to be in a good spot.

This was an impressive young bruiser. The nose came bursting out of the glass, and it was big, but not heavy. At 19 years this was not a baby, but still very youthful. I can imagine it going strong for a couple of decades still.

I bought this in 1983 in Florence (30-40 $). For 20 years or so it was in a metal trunk in a friend's root cellar in Montana (along with a few other wines). The last 15 years it has been over here in my cellar.

The fill was great (IN), the cork came out in one piece. I had a wee sip, and after noting that there were on faults, I put a neutral cork in. That was at 10am, and we drank it at around 6pm. The color was amazing. Clear ruby/garnet, with almost no bricking. The aromas were terrific, floral and cherry, with a refined earthiness (I know that sounds silly). Taking a sip showed real freshness. Sour cherry, tobacco, a hint of caramel, great acidity, and very impressive length.

It was a real treat, and I was so happy that it was in such great shape.

This had been standing upright for a month or so. I grabbed it in popped the cork at 2 pm. Cork was solid, but the first sip really didn't show much. 4 1/2 hrs. later this was quite delicious. Fragrant, soft, full in the mouth, with not much fruit, but great perfume, tobacco, leather, and smooth tannin.

A very good drink with chestnut chicken (thx Martin!)

Stood upright for a week. Cork out cleanly. First sniff doesn't show much, and a small sip is muted. 4 hour ox, another sip, then decanted before dinner.

There just wasn't much going on. Color was bright and clear, with no bricking. Very shy nose, and on the palate the wine was lacking fruit, or really much of anything to make it interesting. We liked it a bit better over an hour or so with dinner, but only a bit.

Unfortunately, this would not have been the kind of Burg to convince people who say that they don't like Burg that they should love Burg.

Thin and acidic.

4 hour ox. Slight alc. nose, but sour cherry and raspberry too. A touch chunky in the mouth, but I like it with the steak. There is no obtrusive oak, and the balance is very good.

Not as good as the last one. Cork fell apart into the wine, so I filtered it. Musty and a bit dull, but came around with some air. Just OK, but still fun.
