Deep and dark, with a ton of oak. Not a greaf malconsorts right off the bat. After couple hours, you get bit more fruit and starts to be expressive, although the heaviness does not dissipate. Some liquorice taking shape. This will need a lot more time before broaching and I’m not optimistic about the end product.

Spicy and clear strawberry flavors if quite dirty and stylistically Lamarche... better than most Grande Rue for what's worth. 92-93

2-3 hour decant. Showed surprisingly well and I didnt feel this was way too early as I had suspected ( based on Dujacs malconsort 16 about a year ago).

The wine? Absolutely stunning. Nose to die for, lush AF. Will be better in time but this is defintly aproachable.

Decanted for 30 mins. Smooth with spice and cherry fruit. Getting better and better after 2 hrs. Will be better in another 7-10 yrs.

In a blind tasting I "identified" this wine as Veronique's 2010 Clos de Mouches. I was properly stunned when I learned the source. Malconsorts? Really? No Vosne spices that we love, just a lot of smoke/cola/leather/sweet notes that I always find in any top Cote de Beaune wines.
Clos de Mouches on steroids, not worth the money.
I've been told that you have to wait 25 years to let the Malconsorts shine. Maybe. Not my experience. But I rather go with Dujac's or Bichot's versions of 2012 now. Cathiard's wine is much truer to the character, but not affordable anymore...

One of the best burgundies I've ever had. And certainly the best De Montille wine the domaine has made. The tannins were warm and semi-fine grained, reminding me of a Barbaresco. The fruit on this wine tasted like dense vosne spices, almost like Christmas pudding (spices, mixed red and black fruit). Wish I had another one of these in my cellar.

My fourth De Montille Malconsorts. My second 2011. Like most 2011's, the vintage is pretty hit and miss and often underrated. This was a great bottle. Chewy and dense. Decanted for 2 hours. The wine evolved like a good burgundy should. Incredible depth and complexity. Medium bodied that seemingly built concentration in the glass. Had a touch or Werthers Original lollies, violet, roses, cherry, tobacco, bunchiness. The tannins are almost rustic but remain semi-fine and the length was very impressive. I'm surprised how underrated this vintage is. Ready to go now.

Dark, deep, but delicate nose with dark but not overripe fruit, pleasantly distant smoke, and some floral notes. Balanced in the mouth: at once generous and light. Tannins beginning to resolve, there’s a gentle roughness. A medium long finish. Delicious.

A little reductive to begin with and showing some Vitamin B. Breathed up beautifully. There were perfectly ripe cherry and blackberry fruits. It had some light florals and a suggestion of orange oil. It was full and luscious, with real depth and presence. The finish was really long and expansive.

A rich and opulent wine. Sweet berry and cherry fruits with some ginger spice. It is layered and deep, with waves of velvety fruits lapping around the gums. It has a creaminess through theid-palate and good energy to the long finish.

Looked like a wine that had plenty of whole bunch, but when the de-stemmed Cathiard was revealed, we knew we had been tricked by the vintage. Loads of rose petal and dried flower action. Red of fruit. Some beef stock and Hoisin development sneaking in. Silky and layered. Drinking somewhere near its apogee.

Colgin Dinner (RPM Seafood - Chicago IL): Nicely Vosne spiced with good weight, very good lengtg, just slightly lacking the depth of this great terroir. Still backward, but that’s Malc, so possible upside?

How is it that six years have passed since the last review of this wine? As I’ve noticed that my taste favors wines just a touch younger than Allen Meadows (who said drink from 2026), I had to open a bottle— and I’m glad I did. This is stunning— represents all the good things I think about with Malconsorts. A cherry liquor-like richness in the nose, earthy clay, and elegance. On opening, it almost seemed thin but it fattened up quickly. Mouthcoating middle palate. Nice spice on the finish. Really lovely.

Translucent darker ruby. Nose of firm but scintillating violets, iron filings, astringent red and dark berry. Layers of red raspberry, fine integrated iron, powdery granite, briar, and earth on the satin-laced palate. Beautiful acidity and smoothed tannin. Long finish of echoing red fruit, ferric granules, sweet earth. Harmony, grace, depth, effortless balance.

Sushi Katori: Unblinded. First nose of this wine and all I could think of was “wow wow wow”, there is definitely potential for further development but damm, this is sexy! Fantastic bouquet showing off waves of vosne spice, macerated cherries, wild strawberries, smoke and bayberries. Palate was sexy, luscious, sensual, and oh, did I mention sexy yet? Texturally gorgeous with sensual vosne spice and fantastic fruit concentration supported by a lovely earth and mineral base. Velvety tannins and a spike of acidity on the finish render this fantastically balance with both power and elegance. I want to be hugged by this wine all day - Charles has produced a damm excellent expression of burgundy with this one!

I am a bit of a sushi purist and frankly I don’t feel red wines go well with sushi but this was my wine of the lunch!

Nose: strawberry, spices, banana, raspberry, red flowers, wet earth/mud
Notes: tasted blind and after the Montille Malconsorts 2013. This is from any perspective an elegant and interesting wine showing plenty of strawberry and raspberry with hints of banana. Unlike most other Malconsorts that have a kind of tar-like nose, that particular set of aroma has been tuned down on this one and it shows the kind of muddy/wet earth sensation instead. This wine also has a good and firm palate that's almost a little chewy. I would say that this is probably quite an atypical Montille Malconsorts and I've enjoyed it thoroughly. Most other vintages I have from both this maker and premier cru (not including Cuvee Christiane which probably warrants another discussion) are really not so satisfactory so I'm glad I'm able to taste this today. 2007 is seemingly stepping into its best form and most wines from this vintage are drinking very beautifully now.

Nose: tar, grassy, cherry, spices
Notes: tasted blind and before the Montille Malconsorts 2007. This wine shows plenty of tar and grassy aroma and aside from that it's pretty muted. Time probably would help but I see little potential in this. Malconsorts is usually a hit or miss for me and this one in particular was a sure miss. For the benefit of doubt I would suggest one to lay it down for another 5-6 years and try again.
