Introduction

By me all wines were tasted not blind.

Flight 1 (1 note)

White
2009 Thanisch & Son Lieserer Niederberg Helden Riesling Alte Reben Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
89 points
In the bouquet a clean wine with ripe yellow fruits and some minerals. On the palate the same. Pleasant citrus, some mango and just a slight touch of pleasant petrol. Nice wine.

Flight 2 (2 notes)

White
2012 Julien Schaal Chardonnay Mountain Vineyards South Africa, Cape South Coast, Elgin
89 points
This wine is still very youthful and the bouquet is still a bit locked. There are yellow fruits, vanilla and some toast. Same on the palate, melon, pepper and vanilla as well. Some ok bitterness in the finish. With some ageing the wine has the potential to score into the 90's, but for this moment 89+.
White
2008 Schloss Gobelsburg Grüner Veltliner Reserve Lamm Kamptal Austria, Niederösterreich, Kamptal
90 points
Aromatic bouquet with yellow fruits like banana and some spiciness. Same on the palate. Full bodied, even a bit fat, mango and honey as well. Beautiful balance between acidity and sweetness. A mature wine which is completely ready now.

Flight 3 (2 notes)

Red
1999 Château Cos d'Estournel France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
91 points
Consistent with December's note. To the palate I can add blackberries, sweet spices, some bell pepper, coffee and chocolate. An elegant Cos. 90 - 91
Red
2003 Mauro Molino Barolo Vigna Gancia Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
89 points
In the bouquet ripe forest fruits, strawberry, sweet spices like cinnamon, sweet licorice and some autumn impressions. Same on the palate. Juicy fruits, soft acidity and tannin. Nice wine. Ready now. Not for very long storage.

Flight 4 (2 notes)

Red
2001 Domaine de Cristia Châteauneuf-du-Pape France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
91 points
Beautiful and mature bouquet with sweet herbs and spices, sweet licorice and plums. On the palate the same plus red fruits, sweet licorice root, a beautiful balance between acidity and sweetness and silky soft tannin. The wine is completely ready now.
Red
2001 Fuligni Brunello di Montalcino Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
90 points
In the bouquet sour cherries and dried dark berry fruits, vanilla, tobacco, leather and laurel as well as some forest floor and barnyard impressions. On the palate the same. Firm but good acidity and spiciness. Ok tannin and a medium length.

Flight 5 (2 notes)

Red
2005 Bodegas Emilio Moro Ribera del Duero Malleolus Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero
92 points
Intense bouquet with a lot of dark forest fruits, licorice, sweet spices and beautiful oak. Same on the palate. Some chocolate. Beautiful balance between acidity and sweetness. Soft blockbuster with elegance as well. Really beautiful wine. Maturity stage now, but it can easily last until 2017.

Red
2005 Ojai Syrah Bien Nacido Vineyard USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Maria Valley
92 points
This wine developed so much for the better. I served it completely blind and many thought it was Northern Rhone. I don’t know if Ojai considers that as a compliment, but I do. In the bouquet dark berry fruits, minerals, leather, licorice and a pleasant touch of barnyard. On the palate rustic with dark fruits like blackberries, smoke, toast, coffee, chocolate, pepper and also some tea. Good acidity and tannin and a pleasant bit of sweetness in the long finish.

Flight 6 (1 note)

Red - Fortified
2003 Les Clos de Paulilles Banyuls Rimage France, Languedoc Roussillon, Roussillon, Banyuls
87 points
In the bouquet extremely ripe dark berry fruits. On the palate ripe black berry fruits as well, also plums and strawberry. Ok acidity and hardly any tannin left. Very soft and smooth and because of that lacking some tension, but certainly more than ok. There is some resemblance with Port wine.

Flight 7 (1 note)

White - Sweet/Dessert
2003 Château d'Arche Sauternes France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
89 points
Just limited notes. Beautiful and elegant bouquet with apricots. On the palate there is the usual orange peel and apricots. Just a little botrytis and ok acidity. Light to medium bodied and at this moment lacking a bit in complexity. Was much better in 2010, but maybe it is the drinking moment. Have a few more, so there will be a follow up.

Flight 8 (1 note)

Red - Fortified
1989 J.W. Burmester Porto Vintage Portugal, Douro, Porto
90 points
Last bottle of Burmester 1989 Vintage and it was a pleasure. Beautifully ripe red and dark berry fruits in the nose and the mouth. Pleasantly sweet and smooth. Ok acidity and silky soft tannin. Medium bodied and a lovely Port wine in the perfect drinking stage now.
