Introduction

We knew the theme, but all wines were tasted fully blind.

Flight 1 (8 notes)

White
2005 Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos St. Jean France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
92 points
Mature bouquet with yellow fruits and good oak which Is fully integrated. Same on the palate. Mild acidity, some bitterness and nutty flavors. Ready now and do not wait too long.
White
2010 Coche-Dury Meursault France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
92 points
To be honest this is an oak monster at this moment with a lot of toast and smoke in the bouquet. On the palate a lot of focused tart citrus, minerals and again smoky toasted oak. The fruit can handle it and this is a mouth full of wine with a long finish. Better wait a few more years. I would like to taste this again around 2020. 92++

White
2004 Kistler Chardonnay Sonoma Coast USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
91 points
Vanilla and yellow fruits like pineapple in the bouquet. Same on the palate. Caramel and some nuts as well. Opinions differed; some loved it; others were less impressed. I think it is a mouth full, but lacking some elegance at this moment. Was more harmonious a few years ago.
White
2009 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
94 points
Beautiful bouquet with a firm dose of oak, but also good white and yellow fruits as well as citrus. Same on the palate. Concentrated, good tart citrus, elegance and complexity and a great length. Will improve with some more years of cellaring. 2020+? 93 – 94+ for tonight.
White
2012 Domaine Henri Boillot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Mouchère France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
94 points
Exclusive and luxurious bouquet with good white fruits and beautifully smoky oak. Same on the palate. Very intense in the nose as well as the mouth. Still youthful, but a great beauty already. 93-94+.

White
2010 Joseph Drouhin Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru
flawed
In the bouquet nutty flavors. Same on the palate. Completely oxidized. This must be a faulty bottle, because the previous one was great. No score.
White
2009 Domaine Chandon de Briailles Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
90 points
In the bouquet some yeasty flavors. Yellow and white fruits and nuts as well. On the palate a touch of oak, yellow fruits and a lot of tart lemon. Overall a round, but not extremely special wine. Does it need more time? Hope so. Try again around 2020.
White
2009 Domaine Bachelet-Monnot Bâtard-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
95 points
Very luxurious wine in the nose as well as the mouth. Beautiful oak, good and juicy fruits like pineapple, tart lemon and lime, minerals and a beautiful balance. Beautiful wine and a feast already.

Flight 2 (14 notes)

Red
2004 Domaine la Barroche Châteauneuf-du-Pape Pure Rouge France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
92 points
Beautiful and elegant bouquet with beautiful garrigue. On the palate a touch of sweetness, good garrigue as well, a firm amount of good acidity and soft tannin. Beautiful wine, but lacking a bit in concentration for a higher score.
Red
2004 Clos Erasmus Priorat Laurel Spain, Catalunya, Priorat
93 points
In the bouquet as well as on the plate a lush wine with sweet spices and sweet licorice. Soft herbs and spices, good fresh acidity and tannin. Ready now and no real hurry.

2005 Domaine du Pégau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Laurence France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
94 points
Beautiful garrigue, barnyard, animals and elegance in the bouquet. Same on the palate. Blind tasted, but knowing this was possibly a southern Rhone wine, it was quite easy to come to Pegau. Typically their style and I love it. Completely ready now, but this wine will probably stay on this level for some years.
Red
2005 Clos Mogador Priorat Spain, Catalunya, Priorat
93 points
See my previous notes. This is definitely a beautiful wine, but already quite developed. Red fruits and sweet spices, ripe red fruits, sweet spiciness and soft tannin. Ok acidity. A lot of pleasant sweetness. Garrigue as well, Ready now and the next few years. 2029 as the final drinking date as it is in CT now is quite optimistic. The wine is completely ready now and probably until 2019 or 2021, but not much longer.

Bouquet with very ripe red berry and cherry fruits as well as some iodine. On the palate lush, ripe red as well as dark berry fruits, garrigue, licorice, leather, chocolate and cherry liquor bonbons. Concentrated and a great length. The wine is at its peak now and will stay there for a while.

2001 Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
92 points
Janasse VV is definitely one of my favorites from C9duP, but tonight we had a somewhat disappointing bottle. In the bouquet very ripe fruits, but also vegetables like cabbage. On the palate ripe fruits as well. Herbs and spices, a lot of sweetness and juiciness, but also drying tannin. The alcohol shows a bit. I scored the wine 92, but after the bottle was revealed I was disappointed, because this wine should score a few points higher. Maybe this is my first wakeup call that also with aged C9duP you must be lucky to have a perfect bottle. (I need to keep this wine in mind.)

Not so many notes. Beautiful bouquet with ripe red and dark berry fruits. Same on the palate. A lot of sweetness and also good acidity and mild tannin. Giving itself much more than the bottle I tasted last year. Early maturity stage now. As written in my previous note; 2017 might be a nice moment to start drinking this wine. 91+ for tonight.

2010 Clos Saint Jean Châteauneuf-du-Pape Deus-Ex Machina France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
97 points
This is an incredible wine, that is for sure. A concentrated bouquet with sweet ripe red fruits like strawberry and beautiful herbs and spices. Same on the palate; really beautiful and a lot of everything. Does it blow me out of my socks? Yes and no. It is concentrated and lush with a lot of alcohol and everything (the acidity, sweetness and soft tannin) is in a perfect harmony. Really impressive; but on the finesse part it misses something. At least in this stage. I can understand all the notes in CT at the moment, including the one of Pinkmoonwinery. For the moment I scored it 96 – 98, so 97 as an average. Hope to taste this again with some more age on it. This might be close to perfection imho between 2025 and 2030, but the proof of the pudding is the eating…. around 2025 or a bit later.

2007 Clos Erasmus Priorat Spain, Catalunya, Priorat
95 points
Beautiful bouquet with ripe berries, garrigue and bacon. On the palate juicy red berries, bacon, sweet spices, a firm dose of sweetness, beautiful acidity and tannin. Really beautiful wine.
Red
2007 Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée de mon Aïeul France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
95 points
In the bouquet ripe red fruits, chocolate and a lot of good garrigue. On the palate mainly black berry fruits, also some red, blood, bacon, chocolate, silky soft tannin and a beautiful balance between sweetness and acidity. Given enough air time this wine is completely ready now, but in a good cellar it can probably last another decade.
Red
2007 Familia Nin-Ortiz Priorat Nit de Nin Mas d'en Cacador Spain, Catalunya, Priorat
94 points
Beautiful bouquet with a lot of garrigue, chocolate, dark and red berries as well as sweet spices. On the palate a lot of sweetness and also good fresh acidity, herbs and sweet spices and tannin with a lovely soft bite.
Red
2007 Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Chaupin France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
95 points
In the bouquet ripe red and black forest fruits as well as herbs and spices. On the palate concentrated and rich dark berry fruit juice, chocolate and a lot of sweetness, mild acidity and soft and round tannin. It was given enough air time and the wine is really a feast. Ready now and the next decade.
