Flight 1 (2 notes)

White
2014 Arkenstone Sauvignon Blanc USA, California, Napa Valley, Howell Mountain
94 points
All of my previous notes apply. This was served side-by-side with a 2013 Arkenstone SB. I favored this 2014 for its elevated intensity and more powerful flavor drive. Nice energy and complexity.

Paired great with lobster. Drink now.

2013 Arkenstone Sauvignon Blanc USA, California, Napa Valley, Howell Mountain
91 points
Served alongside the 2014 Arkenstone SB, which I preferred for its elevated intensity and push of flavors. This 2013 was good, but it had less verve. The tail end was fairly short, fading off fast. Still a very good SB, if but a little simple when compared to the rockin’ 2014.

Drink the 2014 now. Drink the 2013 yesterday...

Flight 2 (1 note)

Rosé
2017 Ambrose Rosé USA, California
92 points
Cantaloupe, strawberry, ripe watermelon, ripe peach, and some orange rind. A weighty Rose, built with notable body and mid-palate girth. Much less watery than most Roses (which I was happy about). Paired well with lobster and shrimp on a hot day. One of the better Roses I’ve had in a while.

Flight 3 (2 notes)

Red
2014 Arkenstone Obsidian USA, California, Napa Valley, Howell Mountain
94 points
Black currant, asphalt, blackberry, black licorice, and subtle dark cassis and violet notes. Drinking very well now, with an accessibility that is indicative of the 2014 vintage. Not as much drive as the 2015. This 2014 carries a more medium-bodied demeanor and rounded edges. Grip is still solid, balanced, and even.

94 points. Drink now and over the next 5-7+ years.

Red
2015 Arkenstone Estate USA, California, Napa Valley, Howell Mountain
95 points
Blackberry, purple plum, licorice, anise, black currant, black cherry, and some spice. A floral note emerged on the tail end as well. Notable energy and drive, especially compared to the 2014. A little higher register than the 2014, but more complex and intense.

94-95 points. Hold until after 2020+.

Flight 4 (1 note)

Red
2011 Arkenstone Cabernet Sauvignon NVD USA, California, Napa Valley
91 points
A 2011 that didn’t instantly catapult me into adversity and grumpiness, this Arkenstone NVD actually showed a decent flavor profile that wasn’t washed over with bell pepper and wood flavors. Rather, this has some pleasant black currant, crunchy wild blackberry, earth, white pepper, and subtle spice notes. No green nonsense going on here. Not a show-stopper by any means, but try to find me a 2011 Napa Cab that is?!

91-ish points. Drink now while the fruit lasts.
