Flight 1 (11 notes)
White
2016 Eugen Müller Forster Kirchenstück Riesling Spätlese Trocken "Cyriakus"
Pale straw with green hues; spritzy, lime chiffon, pithy, slight diesel; sharp acid, not the deepest, delicate, juicy, good length though simpler; was on Austrian as this didn't have slate and was so clean- looking back probably not as ripe as something from Wachau though.
Red
2015 Frederic Esmonin Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Prieur
Light see through ruby; smoky, some reduction, pretty floral notes, meaty plum, well measured fine oak, floral rose, very young, maybe some whole cluster green note to boot; clove and cinnamon, late juicy cranberry sweet and bitterness, high toned, lots of drive and energy; really tasty but wait on this one; agree that this is maybe not the deepest of Gevreys as I went Chassagne Rouge but the wiry acid structure should hopefully become something quite elegant with the right amount of age.

Red
2009 Rhys Pinot Noir Alpine Vineyard
Darker cloudy maroon core with dull maroon rim; sweet aged, candied dense dark red fruit, lots of oak spice, good savoriness, cooked strawberry; larger scaled on the palate, higher alcohol, sweet fruit but good acid, raspberry, blueberry, cooked cherry; called '09 Morlet Sonoma Coast Pinot.
Red
2015 Domaine Jean Grivot Vosne-Romanée
Bright see through maroon; very reduced, burning tire, lots of crunchy red fruit, juicy, a bit hard to read on the nose alone; super juicy on the palate, cranberry, lots of dry extract and texture, sour cherry pit, watermelon, firm acid, quite taut; tasty but needs time.
Red
1985 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Hermitage La Chapelle
Cloudy crimson core with large brick rim; aged, rusty, vegetal, spicy, loads of iron and blood, sanguine, feral, sun dried tomato; good texture, more fruit but very rustic, aged, tertiary, mushroom, beef broth; was in 80's Jaboulet Hermitage.
Red
2006 Fattoria di Fèlsina Berardenga Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia
Dark core with brick rim; dark, modern slant, older, tar, roses, soy, black tea, cedar, black plum, generous, ripe year; lots of texture, blackberry, white rock, wet earth, furry tannin, Sangiovese; called '06 Fontodi Sorbo.

2012 Château Rayas Côtes du Rhône La Pialade
See through pale rose brick, large pale rim; orange oil, roses, lots of cranberry orange tea, iron, bone marrow, light and elegant, sour cherry; fresh palate, great acid, a certain leanness on the nose but the palate fills in nicely, spicy, pure; delicious, contender for WOTN.

Red
2010 Williams Selyem Pinot Noir Precious Mountain Vineyard
Cloudy dull ruby core with dull maroon rim; sweet high toned blueberry, vanilla, very spicy, allspice, sweet strawberry; great palate, depth and intensity, complex, palate is much better than nose suggests, ripe strawberry; could use another 5+ years; called '10 Williams Selyem Hirsch Vyd.
Red
2011 Guillaume Gilles Cornas La Combe de Chaillot
Dark maroon core, semitranslucent with reddish violet rim; younger, furry plum, plush, meaty, some oak influence, tart plum, berry, a bit muddied on the nose (was pnp) violets, blueberry, olive and black pepper, high toned, juicy, spicy, high acid, lots of granite; good but would like this with some more age.
Red
2010 Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona Brunello di Montalcino Pianrosso
Dull crimson, clarity, orange rim; plush nose, rose petals, Slavonian oak, mint, high toned, meaty cherry, dried fruit, red fruit, slightly medicinal; high toned on the palate, spicy, cherry liqueur, burnt orange; good; called '09 Pianrosso.
