Introduction

Trying out a new pizza recipe so we neede some wine :). I wonder where we could get some.

Flight 1 (7 notes)

White - Sparkling
N.V. Charles Mignon Champagne Grand Cru Cuvée Comte de Marne France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
92 points
Light gold color. Drank a glass over 20 minutes. I was reading my previous notes on this wine and I realized I wrote down about the exact same thing. I really like this Champagne, very graceful, yeast, pear, green apple, dough, medium bodied. Love that kind of finessed style. Also has a cool looking bottle and label for what that's worth. My last bottle, a definite must reload.

Very dark red/purple color. PNP, drank a glass plus over 2 hours. Boy, its been a long time since having this - almost 4 years. This was quite impressive for me tonight. This was all about the fruit, gorgeous dark fruit, but everything was so perfectly integrated that it just stood out; ridiculously smooth and easy drinking. Juicy blackberries, black raspberry, black cherry, pepper, gravel, tar and plush tannins with a satin texture. Very enjoyabe bottle. Drank this next to an '11 Lytton Springs and there was no comparison. 92+ to 93 pts.

Very dark red/purple color. Dark fruit, cassis, blackberry cobbler, green and weedy, savory, full bodied, lots of glycerin. This was a little too green for my preference. The '09 Geyserville side by side stole the show in comparison.

Addendum: Quite a remarkable transformation overnight as this lost all of the green elements and the fruit shone through, balanced and now a very attractive wine. Almost as good as the 09 Geyserville now. 89 day 1 and a solid 91 day 2. Give this another two years and I think you'll be rewarded.

Very dark red/purple color with a 1cm transitional margin. Drank a glass over an hour. Black raspberry, dark fruited nose, sweet dark fruits; on the palate pepper, mouth coating glycerin, blackberry pie, tobacco, very tasty. In a good place - donlt know that this gets any better.

Very dark red color. Slow O for about 3 hours. Loved this, nice nose, black cherry, tar, dried earth; on the palate a mix of dark red and black cherry, tar, scorched earth, smoke, dried wood, round tannins. Drinking great now. 92+pts.

Very dark red/purple color. Slow O for 3 hours plus; drank a glass over an hour. Never had this producer before, but was impressed. No confusing this for anything but Bordeaux. Great earth nose, funk, leather, graphite, dark fruits, licorice. The palate is full bodied, cassis, dark berries, tons of wood spice, earth, tobacco finish, good acid. Excellent. This can go another 5 years at the very least. In great shape.
White - Sweet/Dessert
1996 Moulin Touchais Coteaux du Layon France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Coteaux du Layon
Light medium gold color. PNP, drank a glass over 30 minutes plus. Really odd nose with wood and burnt cedar, smoky and a bit musty, light candied apricot. The palate is wood, cedarbox, smoke, pear, good acid, very much alive, waxy, lanolin, more subtle dried apricot. Not very sweet, a little more than off dry at most. Good viscosity. The wood notes are entirely too dominant on this bottle. Not corked, not sure it is representative though based on other notes here. I like it, but surely different. I've had some of these old Chenin that take on some unusual characteristics though this one was even more different. 89 to 90ish points?
