Introduction

Overall all bottles held up very well and there was a high consistency and almost linear age development when comparing the bottles. One was flawed by Coravin tapping about 6-9m ago and that was the 2003.

Flight 1 (9 notes)

Defective from coravin (?). Not as it should be. From memory this bottle was more vigorous when initially tapped.

Starting a bit dusty and chemical but gained weight after about 2 hours. Still a bit awkward and sourish.

Intense aromas of cassis and leather. In the mouth elegant and silky with lots of cigar. Still good fruit level. Finish is less intense than the wine promises. Very vital and in a good place.

Shy opening with leather, cedar, marzipan and sweet fruit. Dry, high acidity with the fruit a bit dried out. Then something happens after 2-3 hours and the wine grows tremendously in the glass. Forgot to make further notes...

Started out with an enticing nose of sweet figs and tobacco. Someone mentioned this reminded more of a Calicab with some age on the nose and I wouldn't disagree. Dry taste with a certain sweetness, good fruit, cedar and pencils. Very elegant and very good balance. Best to start with but it faded much quicker than other vintages which instead grew in size.

Dark color with bricking. Tobacco and leather nose. Sweet fruit. In the mouth dry with cigar box and tar. Very good start but it wears off a bit after 2 hours showing a slightly metallic taste. More interesting than great.
Drink on opening and don't decant for too long.

Sweet, fruity, relatively heavy fruit aromas. Toasted barrels. Tannic still with good acidity. Elegant despite the vintage. Very good balance. Needs more time. 93p

Lovely fruit aroma with secondary notes. Coffe notes. Starting to get ready but tannins are still prominent but fine. Soft silky mouth with structure. Classic vintage.

Clean fruit dominated by cassis. Still undeveloped. Sublime fruit and fine ripe tannins which soften after 3 h of air. This will be outstanding in 10 years time and will last for 30 more. My WOTN.
