Flight 1 - WHITES (2 notes)
White
2020 Domaine des Rutissons Verdesse
Sharp, grassy, and herbal with a sort of a cat-pee note (but not in a Sauv Blanc way). Lemon custard and grapefruit. This is really interesting, acidic and fresh but also quite rich, not the typically mouthwatering and acid notes. This is a bit of a conundrum, deeply citric flavor profile but quite rich.

White
2002 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc
Deep color. By all accounts this was likely oxidized, but I appreciated how nutty and round it was on the palate. Mature Roussane.

Red
1998 Domaine de Trévallon
Soaring violet, garrigue, piercing acidity, dusty. Quite stunning.

Flight 3 - Beaucastel (5 notes)

1981 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape
flawed
Absolutely crashed. I have had many nice 81's, but this bottle was totally destroyed.

1983 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Mmm, strawberry, soaring, garrigue, smoky, white pepper. Very mature. Very delicate. Almost Burgundian. Utterly on point.

1989 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Surprisingly dark. We all struggled with this for a while, as there was a dirty note, seemingly not TCA, not oxidation, but not quite right. But with air this pushed through. So much dark fruit, so powerful, iron and blood. Stunningly powerful and young.

1990 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape
flawed
A bit tired for a 1990, delicate, like the 83 but a bit bitter and clipped. The longer we sat with it, the more sure we were that it was just a bit cooked.

1995 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Deep, dark, cranberry, masculine, intense, a bit of a coffee note. There is something funky and intense, not moldy, not TCA, but a bit herbal and off-putting at first. But we got past it. After 30 minutes in the glass this just explodes, complex, deep.

Flight 4 - Pégau (3 notes)
Red
2000 Domaine du Pégau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée
Utter fireworks, white pepper and garrigue, explosive and vibrant, long, chewy. Like biting and electric cord. It is hard to describe the raw energy and vibrancy here. DEEEEEP structure, surprisingly tannic, really amazing showing.

2001 Domaine du Pégau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée
Deep and mineral, pine, structured, a slow burn, smoldering. It took a while to strut, but then the real 2001 showed up. This thing has 20+ years ahead, really stunning, nit easy, not pure pleasure, impressive with so much potential.

2003 Domaine du Pégau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée
Wow deeply ripe, a bit oxidative, almost over the top.
