Aromatic with tar, red flowers, black fruit, cherries and herbs. While being bold, it is not aggressive, excessively dry or tannic. I honestly did not think barolo could taste like this, and the way it drinks at 70 years of age is mind-boggling.

This is so soft and velvety, its like a red wine pillow. Friendly red fruit of strawberry, raspberry and plum. I had a 1997 about a year ago and that had significantly more development to it, which makes me think that a few more years will benefit this wine.

Double decant back into the bottle then drank a small our a few hours later. This was served alongside a 2007 Harlan Maiden and I felt they were qualitatively at the same level. The Eloge had more structure than the Maiden while the Maiden was more satisfying in a friendly fruity way. This had fine tannins, blackish fruit, cassis, forest floor and spice.
