White - Sparkling
N.V. Bollinger Champagne Special Cuvée Brut France, Champagne
92 points
Drank a small glass to start a tasting. This was drinking great, elegant, robust, a fantastic mix of toast and acid.

White - Sparkling
2011 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut France, Champagne
94 points
Drank a small pour at a tasting. I love the minerality and chalk in this. The palate is creamy, lots of pear and some apple. Very good now, and likely room for improvement.

Flight 2 (3 notes)

White
2015 Leeuwin Estate Chardonnay Art Series Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Margaret River
93 points
This bottle drank just like one a year. The lime and minerality stand out and stand up to the full-bodied palate.
White
2015 Staglin Family Chardonnay Estate USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford
89 points
Drank a small glass at a tasting. This could not compete with 2015 Leeuwin or 2018 Rivers-Marie Thieriot. Comparatively, the Staglin seemed a good quality but pedestrian wine.
White
2018 Rivers-Marie Chardonnay B. Thieriot Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
93 points
Drank a small glass at a tasting. The lemon and minerality stand up to tangy almost tropical fruit.

Red
2001 Robert Ampeau & Fils Volnay 1er Cru Santenots France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
93 points
I believe this was pop and pour, drank a small glass over at least 2 hours. This started out in a weird place, with a musty dank nose. This blossomed into a floral and fresh palate with cherry and wet rocks. The palate was nearly as good as the nose.
Red
2011 The Eyrie Vineyards Pinot Noir Willamette Valley USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
91 points
Drank a small pour at a tasting. Lush strawberry and raspberry fruit that manages to mix with herbs and earth while remaining light.

Flight 4 (1 note)

Red
1953 Marchesi di Barolo Barolo Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
97 points
See ROCKNROLLERs note on wine treatment, it was his bottle. Drank a small pour over about an hour. This wine floored me. It has all the hallmarks of an aged Bordeaux with a slightly bolder frame. Aromatic with tar, red flowers, black fruit, cherries and herbs. While being bold, it is not aggressive, excessively dry or tannic. I honestly did not think barolo could taste like this, and the way it drinks at 70 years of age is mind-boggling.

Flight 5 (2 notes)

Red
2007 Harlan Estate The Maiden USA, California, Napa Valley
93 points
This is so soft and velvety, its like a red wine pillow. Friendly red fruit of strawberry, raspberry and plum. I had a 1997 about a year ago and that had significantly more development to it, which makes me think that a few more years will benefit this wine.

Red
2010 Anderson's Conn Valley Vineyards Éloge USA, California, Napa Valley
93 points
Double decant back into the bottle then drank a small our a few hours later. This was served alongside a 2007 Harlan Maiden and I felt they were qualitatively at the same level. The Eloge had more structure than the Maiden while the Maiden was more satisfying in a friendly fruity way. This had fine tannins, blackish fruit, cassis, forest floor and spice.
