This took a good healthy 6 hour decant before it shined. Great QPR if you can find it at you local Costco. I have three bottles left and will be buying more. Another outstanding wine from this Chateau.

never had a MacD that I didnt love and the 2018 is still a baby. beautiful bordeaux like nose. makes me think of a left-bank first growth (lafite)? love the graphite componant. blueberry, licorice, lavender, earth. so many things going on here. beautiful tannins and a mouthwatering long finish. love so much these wines. pound for pound among the best in the world. Certainly the best in napa, especially at the price point.
  • Agunner23 commented:

  • Agunner23 commented:

Deep ruby color. Strong aromas of milk chocolate, plum and tobacco. Off dry, full bodied, crisp acidity, medium tannins, great balance with amazing flavors of plum, cocoa, and dark cherry. The finish is so long I stopped counting.

It’s young but crazy good.
  • Agunner23 commented:

2008 Dom Pérignon Champagne Rosé Luminous Champagne Blend
Orange in color, very pretty and unique.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity and medium sized bubbles.

Dry on the palate with a nice mouthfeel.

Showing green apples, light grapefruits, yeast, light raspberries, citrus, limes, light earth, minerals and herbs.

This 16 year old is showing nice complexity at this point, and will continue to age nicely the next 10 years.

Good right out of the bottle, and better with airtime.

Dom Perignon is not my favorite Champagne, but this one is really delicious. I got to call it when I see it.

Wine Spectator 97 points. Robert Parker 97 points.

Elegant and robust. I just love this vintage for Dom Perignon.

A blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

12.5% alcohol by volume.

93 points.

$500.

For those still doubtful of smoke taint, wine advocate just published their review, they sent the wine to a lab and it came back 4x over the threshold. It’s smoke tainted to hell.
  • Agunner23 commented:

4/20/24, 7:57 AM - Interesting comments. I am a pretty big fan of Ridge and being a trio wine club member, and for some reason, 2020 is the only vintage I did not get out of the past decade of being a club member. I acquired a vertical for 2013-2020 at an auction. I will taste it in a couple of months when it comes in. Did Ridge give you a refund? It makes me kind of scared of the 2020s because I just bought a 2020 Screaming Eagle, and I hope to you know that it is not smoke-tainted.

Double decanted for an hour and then tasted over the following hour. Dark red color showing no age. Ripe dark fruits on the nose. Great fruit on the palate. This wine is concentrated, and with a long finish. Maybe not yet some more interesting secondaries to come but this is drinking well with the decant and red meat and might improve slightly with time but no harm in drinking now with the decant. There were some very good to excellent 2009 Bordeaux in this evening and while this still shows it's New World fruit it does have a nice mix and certainly was among my favorites along with '09 Montrose and Pontet Canet (they too will get better with more time but the Pontet Canet seemed closer to ready than the Montrose). A-/A

Aroma: Blueberry, plum, nuttiness. Cassis, rich dark fruits.

Tongue: Medium acidity, amazing lenght, and fine grained tannins.

A really decadent wine, which was absolutely divine. It was very rich. (Please forgive me for this extremely middle class comment) it was hard to drink it all, due to its extreme richness. Dont get me wrong, this was amazing. But a full bottle between two, after a recent taste change to lighter pinots, was tiresome.

Overally, amazing i would recommend. But, this is a 4 person wine.
  • Agunner23 commented:

4/13/24, 7:46 AM - That was an interesting review. This is the first one I read to say this is a four-person bottle of wine. Makes me want to PNP one of my bottles because I can't wait till 2070 to let it mellow out. Thanks.

  • Agunner23 commented:

Deep ruby in color, here you find truffle, dark chocolate, coffee bean, cigar box, black cherry and dark plums. Full bodied, elegant, velvety, opulent, sweet and fresh, the presence on the palate is silk and velvet in the texture with purity and sweetness to the fruits. The wine is hedonistic as well as intellectual, and a little bit firm. There is serious aging potential. The wine really sticks with you, for over 60 seconds in the finish. Give this at least 15 or more years in the cellar to develop before popping a cork.

On sale at Binny's so grabbed a bottle to try. Decanted for around an hour, paired with grilled Ribeye.
Pours deep purplish. Nose is black cherry, plums, dark berries, vanilla(?).
Tasting is an absolute fruit bomb, a juicy, fruity explosion of concord grapes, blackberries, cherry coke. A little more silky than expected but very fruit forward. A bit sweet and one note for my taste, bordering on syrupy at times. Don't think I would buy again for myself but I'm sure it would be a fine "crowd pleaser" for casual consumption.
At less than $40 it's a decent QPR for Napa fruit (allegedly of Caymus provenance) if you like the fruit bomb style.
  • Agunner23 commented:

2/5/24, 3:00 PM - I got mine form binnys sale also. tried it and I think they added mega purple which gives it the dark color and adds a sweet grape juice after taste. We shall see in a few years when winery's labels will have to include all ingredients.

A touch of plums, a sense of power but not as overtly clumsily concentrated as the other wines from Ducru Beaucaillou that are here today. Medium plus intensity acidity, a very slightly sour underpin to the black hued fruit again monster level tannins are chewy, drying, broad, big and bolshy but the fruit persist on the long finish. Woof. Very slight bitterness on the long finish.

Wow, what a wine. Deep density of anthocyanins and tannins. This vintage is part of triptych of amazing wines including the 2018 and 2019 vintages. Getting the big words out of the way, this wine is a deep (I mean deep) purple in the glass. First the nose is dark fruit and some goodness I can't find the words for. PNP for the first glass and decanted the rest. Thinking there is no way this is going to be drinkable this young but the nose was so intoxicating and took a sip and it had succulent fruit that makes you put the glass down and just sit there contemplating on how magical this elixir is. The tannins are so well intergraded you hardly notice them till you finish the sip, they say hello and pleased to meet you with gracious opulence. The finish is long giving you ample time to process the flavors of the cab/merlot blend. IMO this is was defines a Grand Vin and what others one should stive to be. I had a WSET level 3 (along with some other letters next to her name) try this she was just as blown away as me. To wrap it up ch. Ducru Beaucaillou has given us two years of excellent wines and this one to cap off their 300 year anniversary run. And what a sexy bottle that holds one of the finest wine I have ever had. If you see it buy it!

Got a six-pack of these so wanted to try one. This was a bit firm, even after an hour decanting, showing its youth, but the last glass was particularly delicious. i tend to like this Chateau and the quality has stepped up a little but so has the price. Hoping I can forget about these for at least another five years as they will surely show better then, but the quality is quite apparent already - just a bit tightly wound to justify opening more any time soon.

Wow what an amazing wine, a total opposite from the must wait from LB. This wine is ready to drink now. I could not put it down so it when fast and dangerous because of the 14.5% but it is too good. I have a bunch of the '18 LB and that is ready also but the '19 knocks down the '18 a couple of points. At the store I Coravined a bottle that I bought for the wine manager and some of the staff and they where also taken back by how such a young LB was so amazing. Notes of mocha and ripe dark fruit. At the house I PNP the wine and no real decant time, maybe an hour or two because it went quick. I am glad I bought 12 bottles at futures price of $90 but now it is on sale for $150, $60 bucks more but worth buying Binny's out of stock! If you get a chance pick up a bottle (or two, you will want to) and have a fantastic Pauillac grand cru! No wonder why Jeb Dunnuck changed his rating April '22 to 100!

OK this is more of a story than a review. So I pulled the bottle of the wine fridge and inserted the coravin and gave a couple squirts of gas and the wine started to flow so I gave it a couple more quick presses on the button. And wham the cork loosened up and took flight with the coravin. It sprayed me and the wall with about half the bottle. I used a half of a roll of paper towels to clean up and now the wall is ruined. I was so mad I just put the bottle down and threw my arms up in defeat. The next day I found the cork and it was narrow at the top and bottom. You could use one finger to push the cork more than half way into the bottle. So I took it back to the store and have to wait till Monday for the wine manager to come back. We will see what they say. Defective cork. Has this happened to anyone else or just my dumb luck.
  • Agunner23 commented:

9/27/23, 3:20 PM - FYI, I used the new coravin that does not really grip the bottle. I also have one of the original coravins that grip the neck of the bottle and will be using that from now on. So the store said it was coravin's problem, way to shift the blame on a crap cork. So the wine manager emailed coravin on my behalf and still waiting for a response. Will update when I get a response. Having the chain store Manager contact them might gain a little more traction than if I emailed them.

For the age is still has a pretty big tannin presence. The fruit is still there but the tannins.. This wine can still got for another a couple years.
I did a blind tasting for a WSET level 2 and a level 3. the level 3 holder guessed Napa Cab, the level 2 was closer saying cab forward blend but not close to the region. So it is in interesting wine to say the least. But
a definite try if you can get a bottle.
  • Agunner23 commented:

9/5/23, 7:22 PM - Thank you for the response and kind words. I decanted for dual purposes: 1. to strain out the sediment with a metal coffee filter. 2. was to put some air into it. Sorry, I left that out in the note. So I decanted and left the house for my friends to try as a blind tasting. When I returned to the house, it was about 6 hours, which helped a decent amount. The bottom line is that this needs some decant time. Six hours put this wine in a sweet spot.

Dark ruby red with light purple edge. Complex noses highlighted by cassis, raspberry, wood and flowers, very expressive. A little compact on the palate at the beginning with restrained power; competely impressed by the beautiful acidity shortly after, with a fresh, juicy and polished mouthfeel. A friend who stayed with us gave me $100 before leaving and told me to go buy a bottle of champagne for me and my wife. So I go to Binnys and one of the employees asked if she could help and I said someone gave me a hundred bucks to spend on a bottle of champagne and without hesitation she pointed and said “this one”. I had never heard of these growers before but boy was she right. Yeast on the nose and something pleasant and a bit earthy that I couldn’t quite describe. Bubbles gave a luxurious mouthfeel that got better as we continued to drink. 50/50 Chardonnay and Pinot noir. At $100 price point this bottle can compete with the best of them! Great backstory for these growers and will try the other vintages in stock as my budget permits.

Dark reddish-purple garnet in color. Full, forward & fragrant nose of ripe fruits aromas of dark cherries, blueberries & cassis with overtones of floral notes of violets & dusty/earthy notes, spices, cocoa, coffee, tobacco, minerals & a good measure of vanilla/oak. Full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blackberries & plums with herbs, graphite, minerals, spices & vanilla/oak. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing but should develop further with additional aging at which time it may merit a higher score. Very good QPR especially when compared to the prices of Napa Cabs.

What a wine. Plenty of body and heft to go around. This is built for the cellar or a decent. I decanted it for a couple of hours, and it opened up, not all the way but enough to be enjoyed. There is plenty of fatty laced dark fruit with super silky tannins. I actually fell asleep around 10 pm, woke up around 7, and had a whole glass left and gave it a quick sniff, and it opened up even further. So I waited till about 3 Pm and drank it, and it was still outstanding. This wine has an awesome QPR coming in at $99 on sale at my local chain store and I bought them out, and another of the same store has 7 left in stock and I will be buying them up.

I have started trying some wines early, like the 09 Lynch-Bages which is fantastic at such a young age. I am glad I got a bunch of it. I was drinking it so fast that I did not even bother adding it in cellar tracker. I still have about 16 bottles left. I just bought out Orland Park and Oak Brook Binny's out of the Smith Haut Liffite.

  • Agunner23 commented:

7/24/23, 8:48 AM - Once every other month, they have a great deal or two. I picked up a '15 Colgin IX for $100 off on their current sale. I am friends with the wine manager at Orland (Nate), and I always get hooked up there. Mokena sometimes has stuff that Orland does not. Just a couple of weeks ago, some customer finished their wine cellar in the house and bought $40K in wine, mostly bordeaux so Orland is out of stock on a lot of the stuff I want. So I go to Mokena, plus the tax is less in Mokena. They just had a 15% off a single bottle of wine sale last Saturday, and I bought a bottle of '18 Sloan and got $108 off. I also have a 15% off another bottle with Nate because I was supposed to get my bottle of '16 Harlan estate and got charged full price for it, so they have a bottle of '19 Harlan Estate on hold for me and I will use the 15% off for that. I have about $890 in binny's points saved up. I think I will just keep saving them and get that bottle of Harlan for free.

  • Agunner23 commented:

7/24/23, 9:20 AM - They rotate about every 30 days. Like I said, they put some good stuff on sale every other month. Last month they had Shafer Hillside select on sale for $235 a bottle and bought binny's out of stock except for the one bottle in Joliet, and their price for that wine is $350 now. Nate is going to Joliet for a couple days this week and I will get that last bottle amongst a couple other bottles that Joliet has that no other store has. They also had Quintess '19 on sale for $200 and I picked up a couple of them. I added you as a friend and hopefully, you get to check out what I have in my cellar. What town do you live in?

And in a flash my 2 Z List bottles are gone! Solid early drinking Ridge Zinfandel, nice structure, lively acidity, nice dark blackberry fruit and a dash of crushed stones for good measure. In this shipment, Ponzo consumed first, Pagani second, Lytton goes in the cellar for 5-10 years.

This wine was driven by Cabernet, showing ripe fruit but with those green/leafy notes and some tannins.

A lesser-known Bordeaux for a decent price in an over-priced government-controlled wine market. (Rant complete)

For a 3rd wine from their GC, this is very dark & powerful - with rich tannins & a good dose of acid. Complexity is here, albeit nuanced. French oak – creamy chocolate – baked plum & cedar. Finish was lacking, but I feel time will help.

Too early to drink now. (5-8 years easy) However, if you are wondering if you should buy the next vintage – Yes, Yes, Yes.

I read don't waste your money on Ulysses and get the Napanook, and they were correct. This is one of the best vintages, I love this wine. I get it by the six-pack (71 per bottle) and it is a great deal. I recently tried a '16 Dominus estate and was impressed but not blown away, but the Napanook has me highly impressed and it is a monthly treat. I will be storing a six-pack away for a couple of years and revisiting, but it is going to be a hard long wait. So try it if you get a chance!

Ripe red fruit with sweet tannins. Very enjoyable with roast chicken. What a bargain. Going to buy another case.
  • Agunner23 commented:

2/22/22, 6:44 PM - Good choice. I also bought this by the case, but I read from decanter (British) reviewed the 2018 vintage, and they are saying it is better than 2017. I can't wait for my local chain store to get 2018 vintage, and I will pick up a case.

It is a fantastic wine right now, I will be buying a few more since they are on sale by me for $79, which is a steal. I could see that some may say wait a couple of years but try one now and be impressed!
  • Agunner23 commented:

11/25/21, 1:50 AM - I gave it 3 hours, but it did not really need it. This was a great strait out of the bottle. Like the Mascot and other cabs in the same price range, they are ready to drink now. But I guess a couple of years in the cellar would not hurt. Buy a couple of bottles if you can get them at the $79 price and try one now and try another in a couple of years. But honestly, I don't foresee this as an age-worthy wine. Ready to drink now.

  • Agunner23 commented:

11/26/21, 10:41 AM - With the supply chain ordeal going on, my wine guy said the Mondavi is not even going to bother shipping this vintage overseas. The wine came in a 6 pack OWC and they started putting them in cardboard boxes of 12 and then started to discount them heavily. So yeah if you can get it for $79 do it you won't be dissapointed.

I just wanted to try a young Bordeaux before I put the others in long-term storage. It took about 3 hours to open up and pretty good. I Can't wait to revisit this wine in a decade. In the meantime, I have a bottle of 2010 that I don't know if I should open for my birthday my other choices is 2001 Monte Bello or 2011 and 2012 Far Niente cave collection cab. Any suggestions?
  • Agunner23 commented:

5/21/21, 11:34 AM - I only have one bottle of the 2010 LB but I have 2 bottles each of the 2011 and 2012 Far Niente, I think I will go for the 2011 based on your advice. I also have vertical cases of Far Niente cave collection from 2013 to 2018. So many choices, but I have till June 12th to decide. Thanks for the reply!

For half the price of the flagship Amuse Bouche (which I had last night), this is a lovely wine and worth picking up. I believe that price does not always dictate quality. I drink Baron Philippe de Rothschild Cabernet Sauvignon Escudo Rojo Reserva regularly, which I usually get for around $12, and I love it. That is my 2 cents. One last thing is the 3D label is fun and a great conversation piece.

Nose of plum, black cherry cola, and black berry pie with hints of alcohol, same on the palate, huge body, mouth filling fruit, Cabernet lovers Zinfandel, needs 5 years in the cellar to peak, very tasty, paired with meaty Italian pizza and it did not disappoint, opened nicely but tasted better the next night, lovely long finish and sweet aftertaste. Photo uploaded.
  • Agunner23 commented:

3/12/21, 6:13 PM - I have one bottle. How did you store the wine for the next night? I have had some Amarones that were better the second day. I just popped the cork in and left it in the wine cooler. The second night with a grilled NY strip steak, and it was heaven.

  • Agunner23 commented:

3/14/21, 1:33 PM - Interesting, never heard wine and a microwave in the same sentence ever. If it works that's an innovative approach. Thanks for the tip!

  • Agunner23 commented:

3/18/21, 7:37 AM - It makes sense to put the wine in the fridge overnight, I do the same because it slows down the oxidation, but I usually take it out about an hour or two. Also, I pour a glass right away to warm up faster in the glass vice the bottle. I was used to that when I lived in Japan, and they keep reds in the fridge at bars, and I got used to drinking it cold.

I wanted to open something "fancy" to mark my wife's birthday and I was hoping for a better showing with this wine than last year with just the two of us to enjoy it. It was very good, with hints of spice and toast to yellow fruit flavors. Still has good mousse and nice grip but compared to the more characterful grower Champagnes we enjoy, it was a bit boring. This was my last bottle and I won't be seeking out more of this or other vintages. There is so much going on in Champagne and so many other wines that suit us better.

Had on consecutive nights the 2018 estate, 2017 Monte Bello and the 2010 Monte Bello. This was good. Almost really good. Not as minerally as other vintages but very good friendly and has good acid. Many different layers and tastes. Everything in balance. Totally enjoyed.
  • Agunner23 commented:

12/17/20, 2:12 PM - I agree. I had 2011 MB the other day and loved it. They just put 2017 up for sale on Ridge's site, a little pricey at $80, but as I am a three club member, I get a %10 per bottle discount and free shipping. I could not pass it up! How did the 2018 Estate compare to the 2017 MB?
