5/7/24, 3:30 PM - I think it was 140 something, but that was back in December last year. prices change.
5/7/24, 4:03 PM - Good call
4/20/24, 8:26 AM - Good review. But it depends on what the price point is. Winery direct price or secondary market price?
5/5/24, 7:42 AM - May I ask if it was more or less than $400? I have been on the wait list for a year. Also, how long did it take for you to get an allocation?
4/29/24, 5:23 AM - Awesome to hear it is a outstanding wine at such a young age. I just purchased a bottle. And with your review I have no regrets on pulling the trigger on one. Thanks for the review!
4/26/24, 12:00 PM - So, was it worth $500?
4/23/24, 4:08 PM - I 100% agree, very smokey. Campfire smokey.
4/20/24, 7:57 AM - Interesting comments. I am a pretty big fan of Ridge and being a trio wine club member, and for some reason, 2020 is the only vintage I did not get out of the past decade of being a club member. I acquired a vertical for 2013-2020 at an auction. I will taste it in a couple of months when it comes in. Did Ridge give you a refund? It makes me kind of scared of the 2020s because I just bought a 2020 Screaming Eagle, and I hope to you know that it is not smoke-tainted.
4/20/24, 10:11 AM - That was nice of them. I will try it as soon as I get it and see.
4/20/24, 8:44 AM - I agree that it is a great value and a pretty good wine.
4/20/24, 8:21 AM - I am glad to see a review on a Pierre Gimonnet & Fils Champagne Special Club that is not dunking on it. I like their Champagnes, and they don't get the love they deserve. Also, they have an excellent QPR.
4/20/24, 7:48 AM - Was the Montrose and Pontet-Canet also '09? If so, I completely agree with you. I am going to give this wine a few more years in the cellar.
4/13/24, 7:46 AM - That was an interesting review. This is the first one I read to say this is a four-person bottle of wine. Makes me want to PNP one of my bottles because I can't wait till 2070 to let it mellow out. Thanks.
4/13/24, 8:58 AM - It depends on my mood. I usually lean towards more bold and powerful wines, like the 2020 Ducru-Beaucaillou, which you should check out my review of that.
4/13/24, 7:31 AM - Bonne critique, merci.
4/11/24, 11:11 AM - Thanks for the review. What does the NR stand for?
3/2/24, 3:57 AM - what made you up your score? also, I just got 2 Bottles and what is your suggested drinking window? And to save time, what is the drinking window for the 1998?
2/5/24, 3:00 PM - I got mine form binnys sale also. tried it and I think they added mega purple which gives it the dark color and adds a sweet grape juice after taste. We shall see in a few years when winery's labels will have to include all ingredients.
1/25/24, 11:29 AM - You are correct; magnums are better for aging. I have a 3L, and it should be great to drink now. The problem is getting enough wine people together to enjoy it.
1/25/24, 11:26 AM - Thanks for letting us know that the set dinking window is a fictitious date range. I have a 3L of this wine and can't wait to get enough people together to drink it.
1/22/24, 8:53 AM - Great review. Would you suggest buying futures? I am trying to decide to gat a six-pack or a full case.
1/22/24, 3:08 PM - cool thanks, I will put my order in for a full case.
12/26/23, 8:04 AM - Well I tried the 2020 Pontet-Canet and Lynch-Bages and liked them so I just thought I would give it a try since I have 18 750ml bottles and a magnum. Had 21 750ml bottles.
12/25/23, 8:48 AM - Great review, I have 4 bottles now and want to try one. Looks like I will. I found a Costco that has 2 sealed 12-packs and it is 148.99 a bottle. Do you think it is worth getting a 12-pack and stashing it in my cellar for a few years?
12/20/23, 8:20 AM - I agree and thanks for the review.
11/23/23, 6:47 AM - Thanks for being brave and opening a bottle! Also, good review. I have 17 bottles and a magnum. now I am tempted to try one soon. So a sexy wine with in a sexy bottle.
5/24/23, 4:00 PM - Thanks, please let us know when you try a bottle!
10/25/23, 1:32 PM - Thanks for the kind words, and I hope you will enjoy the wine!
9/27/23, 3:20 PM - FYI, I used the new coravin that does not really grip the bottle. I also have one of the original coravins that grip the neck of the bottle and will be using that from now on. So the store said it was coravin's problem, way to shift the blame on a crap cork. So the wine manager emailed coravin on my behalf and still waiting for a response. Will update when I get a response. Having the chain store Manager contact them might gain a little more traction than if I emailed them.
10/15/23, 4:18 PM - No one has taken responsibility, so the merchant offered me a free bottle of 2018 Leoville poyferre in good faith to keep me because I buy a lot of wine from them. A cheaper bottle but JD gave it 100. So a little happy but still angry that I have to paint the wall.
9/5/23, 7:22 PM - Thank you for the response and kind words. I decanted for dual purposes: 1. to strain out the sediment with a metal coffee filter. 2. was to put some air into it. Sorry, I left that out in the note. So I decanted and left the house for my friends to try as a blind tasting. When I returned to the house, it was about 6 hours, which helped a decent amount. The bottom line is that this needs some decant time. Six hours put this wine in a sweet spot.
8/9/23, 5:26 PM - Awesome review, I will be trying a bottle in the next few days.
8/15/23, 7:51 PM - I got a bottle, and it was awesome, so I bought a sealed OWC six-pack and five extra bottles. from my local chain and got %10 off. well worth it.
8/11/23, 6:30 PM - Pretty funny, I was in the exact same spot, I had to buy my dad a bottle of champagne and he gave me a hundred and I know the wine manager at their Orland park location and he pointed to this. And he is a champagne lover. But I just had to get one because it is on sale right now.
7/31/23, 2:37 PM - Thanks for the fantastic review! You are correct about the QPR. I just bought a bunch from a well-known wholesaler who had it for less than $26 a bottle. I bought them out of stock.
7/24/23, 4:08 AM - What a small world. I picked them up from Binny's. Glad the review helped. I have started trying some wines early, like the 09 Lynch-Bages which is fantastic at such a young age. I am glad I got a bunch of it. I was drinking it so fast that I did not even bother adding it in cellar tracker. I still have about 16 bottles left. I just bought out Orland Park and Oak Brook Binny's out of the Smith Haut Liffite.
7/24/23, 8:48 AM - Once every other month, they have a great deal or two. I picked up a '15 Colgin IX for $100 off on their current sale. I am friends with the wine manager at Orland (Nate), and I always get hooked up there. Mokena sometimes has stuff that Orland does not. Just a couple of weeks ago, some customer finished their wine cellar in the house and bought $40K in wine, mostly bordeaux so Orland is out of stock on a lot of the stuff I want. So I go to Mokena, plus the tax is less in Mokena. They just had a 15% off a single bottle of wine sale last Saturday, and I bought a bottle of '18 Sloan and got $108 off. I also have a 15% off another bottle with Nate because I was supposed to get my bottle of '16 Harlan estate and got charged full price for it, so they have a bottle of '19 Harlan Estate on hold for me and I will use the 15% off for that. I have about $890 in binny's points saved up. I think I will just keep saving them and get that bottle of Harlan for free.
7/24/23, 9:20 AM - They rotate about every 30 days. Like I said, they put some good stuff on sale every other month. Last month they had Shafer Hillside select on sale for $235 a bottle and bought binny's out of stock except for the one bottle in Joliet, and their price for that wine is $350 now. Nate is going to Joliet for a couple days this week and I will get that last bottle amongst a couple other bottles that Joliet has that no other store has. They also had Quintess '19 on sale for $200 and I picked up a couple of them. I added you as a friend and hopefully, you get to check out what I have in my cellar. What town do you live in?
7/24/23, 6:35 PM - Wow, what a deal, I will be going to Costco tomorrow and see what they have, thank you for the heads up!
7/24/23, 8:37 PM - That is cool thanks, I will get something from there, wine or not. I need a 5-gallon bucket of pickles anyways lol.
7/25/23, 6:07 AM - Funny, you should say that I do need paper towels and will be picking up a pallet of them.
7/25/23, 12:44 PM - Oustanding, went to costco and pick up all the '18 smith haut lafite, 14 bottles for 79.97 a piece. I got all they had l.they had one OWC and the rest loose.
7/25/23, 1:10 PM - You, also picked four bottles of '19 Siran for 24.99 a bottle and something I never seen before, a second or third label of Pape Clement, it is a blanc and it was 26 99. Again thanks for the heads up on costco!
5/4/23, 1:05 PM - I just did, great choice!
2/3/23, 4:14 PM - What score do you give it? I like this wine enough I buy it by the six-pack, picked up four of them and drank one six-pack over a two week period, great everyday wine.
12/10/22, 10:50 AM - Good review, nice to see a fellow Z lister! I am a three-club level member, I love ridge and rarely had a bottle I did not like. I can't wait to try this wine.
11/30/22, 8:21 AM - Combien d'années?
11/30/22, 9:30 AM - Merci!
11/30/22, 8:22 AM - So it is approachable now? I have a bottle, but I want to try it, but everyone says to wait a few years.
11/30/22, 8:46 AM - Thanks for the info. I will post when I try it.
11/14/22, 9:10 AM - I bought a 12-bottle case of the '19, and just picked up two bottles of the '18s. Thank you for the review.
11/8/22, 9:25 AM - Could just be me, but I have 2 more and I will hopefully enjoy them like you did
11/6/22, 7:16 AM - I did, I bouya 12 pack for the cellar and will try again in 2 years. It is a fabulous wine today.
11/6/22, 7:14 AM - How did you store the wine for the second day? I am surprised you did not finish on day one. Thanks.
7/2/22, 6:41 PM - Binney's hase it on sale for $39.99 till the 4th of July so stock up, I picked up six bottles
5/26/22, 8:54 PM - funny, I just basically reposted what you wrote, I did not mean to do that. I apologize for that and you are correct in your assessment napanook is the way to go.
2/22/22, 6:44 PM - Good choice. I also bought this by the case, but I read from decanter (British) reviewed the 2018 vintage, and they are saying it is better than 2017. I can't wait for my local chain store to get 2018 vintage, and I will pick up a case.
12/31/21, 1:07 PM - Update, I bought the remaining five bottles in the OWC. I could not help myself.
12/13/21, 10:17 AM - Glad to help, you won't be disappointed.
11/25/21, 1:50 AM - I gave it 3 hours, but it did not really need it. This was a great strait out of the bottle. Like the Mascot and other cabs in the same price range, they are ready to drink now. But I guess a couple of years in the cellar would not hurt. Buy a couple of bottles if you can get them at the $79 price and try one now and try another in a couple of years. But honestly, I don't foresee this as an age-worthy wine. Ready to drink now.
11/26/21, 10:41 AM - With the supply chain ordeal going on, my wine guy said the Mondavi is not even going to bother shipping this vintage overseas. The wine came in a 6 pack OWC and they started putting them in cardboard boxes of 12 and then started to discount them heavily. So yeah if you can get it for $79 do it you won't be dissapointed.
9/22/21, 12:49 PM - Yes, I did. I think I decanted for about 3 hours if memory serves me correctly.
5/21/21, 11:34 AM - I only have one bottle of the 2010 LB but I have 2 bottles each of the 2011 and 2012 Far Niente, I think I will go for the 2011 based on your advice. I also have vertical cases of Far Niente cave collection from 2013 to 2018. So many choices, but I have till June 12th to decide. Thanks for the reply!
5/21/21, 4:00 PM - Wow, okay, so for my 53rd birthday then.
5/24/21, 8:50 AM - Thanks for all the input! I will post to the appropriate wine when I have drunk the selected wine.
3/31/21, 10:57 AM - The wines were recommended to me to try, so I did. I don't usually purchase that expensive of wine from a retailer, but they were highly rated, so I wanted to see what the hype was.
3/12/21, 6:13 PM - I have one bottle. How did you store the wine for the next night? I have had some Amarones that were better the second day. I just popped the cork in and left it in the wine cooler. The second night with a grilled NY strip steak, and it was heaven.
3/14/21, 1:33 PM - Interesting, never heard wine and a microwave in the same sentence ever. If it works that's an innovative approach. Thanks for the tip!
3/18/21, 7:37 AM - It makes sense to put the wine in the fridge overnight, I do the same because it slows down the oxidation, but I usually take it out about an hour or two. Also, I pour a glass right away to warm up faster in the glass vice the bottle. I was used to that when I lived in Japan, and they keep reds in the fridge at bars, and I got used to drinking it cold.
1/10/21, 9:07 PM - Awesome that you enjoyed it, I have a magnum and I don't know when to open it.
12/17/20, 2:12 PM - I agree. I had 2011 MB the other day and loved it. They just put 2017 up for sale on Ridge's site, a little pricey at $80, but as I am a three club member, I get a %10 per bottle discount and free shipping. I could not pass it up! How did the 2018 Estate compare to the 2017 MB?
11/27/20, 6:04 PM - I see you like this wine, I have an option to pick up a bottle for $235 or a bottle of Dominus Estate Napa Valley Red 2017 for $215, what is your opinion?
12/1/20, 5:31 PM - right on thanks for the adive, I just found out on the my store's webite that now Dominus '06 '09 $250 '11 $215 '14 '15 16' $250 and the '17 for $215 all sale prices. They also have Chappellet '13 '14 '16 '17 all for $235. I would like to have one or twe of each in the celler but I just picked up ther last 6 pack of Realm Moonracer '18 for $265 a bottle. It seems like they are trtine to make room for new '18 and '19 releases. What do you think?
12/2/20, 10:43 AM - will do thank you for the recommendations!
12/12/20, 12:17 PM - I bought and received your recommendations. I also used a coupon on wine.com and got a bottle of Dominus 2017 for $159.99!
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
