good to the last drop

3/14/24, 4:45 AM - Score... I am not paid to score wines or play Parker on TV, I just drink and enjoy (or not) and post ready/not ready comments for future use.
I hate decanting wines, I prefer drinking them when they are ready and evaluate the changes in the bottles as wine is poured during long dinner.

It is ready, nose is excellent but...don't wait for too long. It won't get any better and it hit the peak.

12/28/23, 4:31 AM - Slow oxed for couple hours in a cellar, that all it took!

Simple, fruit forward, tart cherry, nice acidity. Drinking nicely right now. Not sure it has the structure to improve.

Ready for business
  • Serge Birbrair commented:

10/3/22, 4:38 PM - Didn't decant, just opened at home and brought to a restaurant. I don't like decanting wines.

Red
2005 Clos l'Église (Pomerol) Red Bordeaux Blend
still tannic with no end to it in sight

I am afraid your double magnum might outlive me.

Red
1997 Dunn Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain
I don't get this wine, every bottle we opened over the years had strong presence of iodine on the nose. Mystery to me
  • Serge Birbrair commented:

12/6/16, 3:44 PM - don't be sorry... probably my palate is overly sensitive to this particular taste...

Upon opening, uninspiring. An hour later, stunning. Decant this to get the most out of it. Beautiful!
  • Serge Birbrair commented:

    1/27/16, 4:39 PM - good advice! I followed it and wasn't disappointed!

Red
1996 Château Latour Grand Vin Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend
The biggest disapointment of the night - I happen to own 2 bottles and I expected much much more from this Parker's 99 pointer.
Green pepper, green stems, green grass, and this si all I have to say about that one.
  • Serge Birbrair commented:

    11/22/15, 5:45 AM - what a difference 7 years in a bottle make!

Retailer tasting: The bouquet is reticent. On the palate very special; it is full of limestone impressions, but not as crisp as it can be in Chablis wines. Ok acidity. Drying in the finish. No score.
  • Serge Birbrair commented:

    1/27/14, 11:23 PM - I don't dig $32 price tag, the wine tastes overpriced.

  • Serge Birbrair commented:

1/30/14, 4:30 AM - I had other Pigato and from the same producer, one @ $16 and another @ $19. I liked them much more as expectations for this one were rather high but... it always useful to have low expectations :)

Red
2009 Château Haut-Bergey Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend
drink fast, like all bottle in 15 mins fast. It gets worse when opened.
  • Serge Birbrair commented:

10/3/13, 11:51 AM - WineStrategies, yes, of course, but will be gone by the end of Nov. Jeff & Ghazala will visit us THIS weekend, what a small world! If you come to South Florida, I'll organize the dinner.

Fruity, rasberry, heavy, lasting and wanting! It went way too fast. Get this wine! You won't regret it.
  • Serge Birbrair commented:

Polny pizdets! Posle all those years. Pei na zdorovie.
  • Serge Birbrair commented:

1/23/13, 10:31 PM - I bought it for $100 in 2012 and the wine is still very much drinkable and enjoyable IF it was stored properly.

Superb. The wine of the night.

    1/12/13, 8:11 AM - my sentiment precisely

Red
2005 Araujo Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vineyard Napa Valley
My WOTN, despite it's youth. The more the wine was sitting in the glass, the better it became. Tremendous concentration, but not overly so. I see this wine as a mega hit down the road.
  • Serge Birbrair commented:

3/7/10, 6:45 AM - Let this bottle sleep for few more years and the patience will be rewarded 10 fold.

White
2004 Maison Leroy Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Chardonnay
Compelling minerality on the mid-palate just won my heart. Dark straw color. The wine was blossoming with air and was would have been the perfect match to any shell sea food.
  • Serge Birbrair commented:

3/6/10, 4:44 AM - a bit expensive @ $150, but you definitely get the bang for the buck.

Red
2000 Domaine Leroy Volnay 1er Cru Santenots-Du-Milieu Pinot Noir
"If the wine doesn't meet your expectations - lower your expectations."
My expectations exceeded what the bottle has presented and the worst part - I don't see this wine getting any better in time/space continuum.
  • Serge Birbrair commented:

3/6/10, 4:43 AM - not the best QPR in the world

Red
1989 Pierre Barge Côte-Rôtie Syrah
The wine is off the top but still lots of life left. The sediments make the wine cloudy after the first pour, but the wine gets better and better with air, there is still plenty of fruit left. @ $90 it's a baaaagn! and expresses aged CR pretty well.
  • Serge Birbrair commented:

3/6/10, 4:43 AM - seems like the last vintage from this producer

Red
2000 Château Lynch-Bages Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend
My WOTN. Just barely getting into the prime drinking window. Masculine, not a sissy wine. Left very good taste in my mouth.
Feel free to add the usual BDX descriptors if you have to. I'd buy this wine over and over again.
  • Serge Birbrair commented:

3/6/10, 4:41 AM - still needs some air in decanter

Red
1985 Lorenzo Accomasso Barolo Rocche Nebbiolo
The cork got rotten on the inside and added the unpleasant taste.
Very disappointing.
  • Serge Birbrair commented:

2/28/10, 3:46 AM - The second bottle, the first was just perfect.
