4/19/24, 10:16 PM - Haven’t bought any 19’s yet but I know they will be great. I just keep buying the 15 Riservas because they are more ready to drink.
4/18/24, 9:06 PM - I’m amazed this is still drinking so well. I have great memories of this and the 90 that I had full cases of. I bought full cases of Angelus, Pichon Baron, Lynch Bages, Montrose, Figeac, Pavie & Leoville Las Cases every year from 85-90. Those were the years. And prices were absurdly cheap.
4/18/24, 9:27 PM - I think Angelus in 89 & 90 was around $300 a case. Leoville Las Cases was most expensive at $350 a case. Good old days.
4/17/24, 9:17 PM - Look at you go with the White Burgundy. Didn’t know you were a fan.
4/17/24, 9:57 PM - Burgundy prices are absurd. I’m with you. I only buy (Reds) if it’s a deal. Hard to find now.
4/17/24, 9:16 PM - Merry Edwards was bought out which often times can be the kiss of death. I bought a lot of the Pinots years ago but they became to expensive. For a similar price I’d rather have Burgundy.
4/15/24, 6:01 PM - My last bottle of this I decanted 4 hours and it was incredible. I rated it 94 points.
4/17/24, 9:12 PM - Lucky I have 8 left. There seems to be p,entry of 15 & 16 StE around which are both great vintages.
4/15/24, 5:56 PM - I guess I need to try one of mine. Thanks for the note.
4/17/24, 12:29 PM - I will try one soon. Need to try some 15 De Fieuzal too.
4/15/24, 6:41 PM - The 15 LaTour Martillac is also drinking great right now. Another Pessac with great QPR.
4/15/24, 6:06 PM - I have both 15 & 16 so should probably try a 15. Thanks for the note.
4/11/24, 2:29 PM - These 15 Produttori Riservas are fantastic and I keep buying them. Try to find the 15 Montefico. It’s the best I’ve tried so far. I have Montefico, Montestefano, Pora, Paje & Muncagota. I’ll most likely keep buying before they are gone. Cheers !!
4/8/24, 4:49 PM - It needs a 2-2 1/2 hour decant right now. Makes a huge difference. Read my reviews of this wine. I didn’t like it until recently.
4/6/24, 7:13 PM - Any decant time?
4/5/24, 5:07 PM - Reynvaan is only an amazing using if you love that funky metallic/rocks thing. Many don’t including me. It’s a different expression of Syrah but for sure not traditional. There is no confusing this with classic French Syrah like Cote Rotie, Hermitage or Cornas. If you like it that’s all that matters. Cheers.
4/5/24, 6:08 PM - CT is a wine discussion forum. Ok..get it now? Good. Not everyone is going to like the same wines you do. If you don’t like other opinions then maybe not respond to those that don’t agree with you. Easy huh?
4/6/24, 7:22 AM - Hi DQ I shouldn’t have commented on this wine. My bad. I just won’t comment on wines I don’t care for in the future. No comments on Caymus then 😜. How was your trip to CO?
4/6/24, 8:55 AM - DQ hit me up next time you’re in CO. I don’t hate Reynvaan or Cayuse. They are well made wines and I’ve scored them high in the past. I just prefer more traditional Syrah. There are many WA ones I like. Force Majeure, Gramercy, K Vintners, Betz etc. See u in CO.
4/5/24, 4:55 PM - You don’t need Professional tasters to tell you if a wine is good/great or not. You figured this out for yourself. Fleur Cardinale is a great QPR wine always. There are many others in StE.
4/6/24, 8:48 AM - Understood. There are several CT folks whose reviews I trust and rely on at times. Also in good vintages most Chateau that you know will be good if you’ve liked them in other vintages. Cheers !!
4/5/24, 7:19 PM - You can see my three reviews of this wine. This last bottle I decanted 15 minutes and it was great over another 30 minutes for dinner. It’s changed a lot since July 22 when I had my last bottle.
4/6/24, 8:44 AM - I haven’t tried any 16’s either. I still have 9 more 15’s to drink. For $45 this is an amazing QPR Italian wine.
4/4/24, 8:45 AM - How were the tannins?
4/4/24, 12:40 PM - Really ??? I guess my last bottle was July 22 so I need to try. It was so ridiculously tight and tannic then. I will try another one this weekend. I also have the 2016. Thanks for the tasting note and message. Cheers !!
4/5/24, 7:09 PM - KillerJones just had a bottle so read my review. Much softer than in 22 but more approachable now. Still has plenty of tannin to carry many more years.
4/5/24, 4:58 PM - Drink now or over the next 25-30 years.
4/5/24, 4:56 PM - Well…It’s too young.
3/31/24, 6:39 PM - PT…Completely agree.
4/5/24, 4:44 PM - I’ve never relied on Professional scores. It’s just a way to overpay for wines. CT scores are way better than Professional scores on every level. Real people scoring real wines who aren’t getting paid to score wines at ridiculous points,
4/4/24, 3:11 PM - Great story and great wine. Cheers !!
4/4/24, 12:47 PM - Great note SIRFRED !! Interesting you don’t decant. I’ll have to try this sometime but mostly I decant young Rioja. I used to decant Burgundy early on but now I never do. I like to see how the wine changes throughout the evening. I usually buy Bosconia and Tondonia. I still have 09 Bosconia so haven’t tried the 10 yet. Bosconia is more rustic while Tondonia more refined. Both are great. Cheers !!
4/4/24, 3:07 PM - We use Grassl Cru & 1855 glasses for special. Everyday stuff we use Crate & Barrel Vineyard Cabernet glasses. For $20 they are great. Always decant Bordeaux, Barolo & Amarone. Others if young get a 30 minute decant then I try it. Depending on how it is it stays in decanter or put back in the bottle.
3/31/24, 7:28 PM - Don’t tell anyone. Let them continue to buy that overpriced CA plonk and leave this stuff to us.
3/30/24, 6:55 AM - Just FYI I bought some 16 Armstrong Vineyard recently and it is drinking great right now with no signs of slowing down. I think the Vincent Single Vineyards are really great at 7-8 years of bottle age. Earlier than that they are more closed. Cheers!!
3/29/24, 11:44 AM - Thanks, for your review. I planned on trying one of mine this year anyway so now it will be sooner. I have 5 of these and 6 of the 2017. Was there any decanting time? Did the wine improve with more air time? Thanks
3/29/24, 12:00 PM - Thanks again. I’ll most like decant it and try it after 30 minutes, 45 minutes etc. and see how it is. If it’s ready I’ll put the cork back in or continue decanting if I feel it needs more. Cheers !!
2/14/24, 7:56 PM - Interesting. We go to Crested Butte often living here in CO but never heard of or been to this place. Wine list must be decent? Food good too?
3/29/24, 9:19 AM - I marked the restaurant for next time. It’s across from Bonez Restaurant we go to a lot. Menu looks great. Glad you had a nice time and birthday in CB. We tried The Hideout last time also on Elk Avenue. Great Asian Fusion next time you go. Happy belated birthday.
3/18/24, 8:34 PM - Pontet Canet is NEVER ready at 9 years old.
3/19/24, 6:50 AM - Mark…look at my notes of 2015 LaTour Martillac. I tried bottles one year apart and couldn’t have been more different. Went from closed to fully open in a year. No nose to beautiful Bordeaux nose. Of course PC is much more dense & extracted and needs much more time. You can always open wines young but they are never as good as they are going to be. When I first tried LaTour Martillac I wondered why I bought it. Now I’m buying more 15 and adding the 18. B21 has the 15 for $47 and it’s a steal. Ready to go with a 2 hour decant. Cheers!! Headed to San Diego today for some warm weather
3/18/24, 8:43 PM - How long of a decant?
3/17/24, 9:09 PM - PT You and Motz were right on this. I’ve said before that I’m not good at rating young wines. This is so great now and full of BDX character. Thank you. This is bordering 94 points.
3/18/24, 9:20 AM - EA The 18 is supposed to be very good too and I know PurpleTooth likes it. I’m inclined to buy some of this one too.
3/18/24, 11:56 AM - PT…Great comments as usual. I will be adding the 18 as well Cheers !!
3/18/24, 9:17 AM - wineotim The last vintage for Kobalt was 2015. I would seek this vintage out but it is hard to find now. 2013 was also a great vintage. 2014 was average so I wouldn’t pay up for that one.
3/11/24, 8:20 AM - DQ This is ready to go. Maybe decant it for 15-20 minutes then try it. If it needs more time leave it in the decanter. If it’s ready pour it back in the bottle. This bottle needed no decanting and it’s drinking great.
3/8/24, 7:39 AM - The 2015 is great right now.
3/2/24, 5:47 PM - My experience with the 14’s is they are tannic. More so than 15’s in a lot of cases. Because of this I’ve had few bottles of 14. Right Banks are more ready by far than LB.
2/26/24, 6:29 PM - I drank my last 2010 recently which is so amazing right now. I have 6 of these coming pre-0rder. This wine is always a 95-96 wine for me. Most of the15 StE are open for business.
12/30/23, 5:47 PM - Mark…Larkmead is Old School and needs lots of bottle time. I find the Cabs can be too one dimensional. This LMV Salon was probably the best of the four we had at Christmas but it had a bit of sweetness that I didn’t love. I did love the fruit here. By far the most fruit forward of the group. I paid $140 but probably wouldn’t buy again at this price. Trying to drink an amazing wine at the right time is challenging. None of these wines we had were outstanding. Good yes. Great no.
12/30/23, 6:08 PM - Mark…You have any DiCostanzo Farella? You’d love this.
2/26/24, 5:41 PM - SF I’ve had a fair amount of Larkmead wines and the Cabs & LMV need 13-15 years before they shine. I put them in the same ageing category as Dunn HM, Chateau Montalena Estate, Tignanello etc. I haven’t had Firebelle but since it’s mostly Merlot it might be ready earlier at 10 plus years. I do love me some Larkmead. Need to find some 08 & 09 but scared prices will be too high.
2/24/24, 5:34 PM - DQ No idea as I’m not a white wine fan. I know many whites are higher priced than their red brethren.
2/23/24, 6:35 PM - Sounds like bottle variation or a bad bottle.Your score is the lowest by far. Did you get the Lilac/Lavendar floral notes? I’ll try another soon.
2/24/24, 10:31 AM - I’ve had 2 bottles so far and I scored both 92 pts. A score of 60 is a severely flawed or terrible wine. This is not what I’ve experienced here. I’ll try another soon.
2/20/24, 7:45 AM - It might be time to try one. How long did you decant this?
2/20/24, 10:07 AM - Thanks
2/14/24, 7:48 PM - It’s incredible how tannic Italian IGT can be. I have some 15 Valadorna I’m afraid to even try. Many others too.
2/14/24, 7:43 PM - How was the snow? No food or wine deals in Vail but same for all 5 Star resorts.
2/14/24, 5:25 AM - Mark I’ve done this before when I went all BDX but did come back to CA Cabs. As long as they are too ripe.
2/11/24, 7:27 AM - Scott….Drinking great right now. Thanks for the BD wishes.
2/14/24, 5:24 AM - Mark Wine was amazing as was my BD. Thanks
2/12/24, 3:29 PM - Thinking of buying the 2015.
2/13/24, 8:56 AM - If you like this try some of the 15 Produttori Riservas. They are fantastic.
2/13/24, 1:53 PM - In stock bassins.com Barbaresco not Barolo.
2/10/24, 5:41 PM - Who is sourcing these bottles? This should be great. As far as Barbaresco…Buy some 2015 Produttori Riservas. If you don’t like this you don’t like Nebbiolo.
2/11/24, 7:30 AM - I can only think of rare occasions when we open up a bottle to drink by itself. It’s almost always with dinner. Nebbiolo is probably the last wine I would want without food because its bold & dry. Meat or pasta please.
2/8/24, 5:57 PM - WoW Really surprised this wine would score so low.
2/9/24, 6:18 AM - Average CT score is 94.8 so prolly a bad bottle.
2/8/24, 6:07 PM - I honestly don’t get these new wave CA Cabs. The over ripe, sweet wines are just a joke to me. I quit buying CA Cabs because or price and because I don’t know what I’m getting anymore. I’m 100% Old World now and that’s it. I’d rather drink $40 Priorat or Rioja.
2/8/24, 5:54 PM - I just got 6 of these. Haven’t tried yet but will open one soon and report back.
2/8/24, 5:53 PM - Jeff Leve says this one needs until 2030 because it’s so tannic. Also, there is no Cru Bourgeois that’s in the same Universe of this wine. IMO American wines don’t complete with French terroir either. Two different animals.
2/7/24, 6:17 PM - Not sure when to try any of mine. Not for a while. I still have 2014’s I haven’t opened. Someday.
2/8/24, 7:24 AM - Grafstrb…Glad there are folks who try wines early. I know LB will be great in great vintages. I have lots of wine to work through while others are still sleeping. Cheers !!
2/7/24, 6:03 PM - Wouldn’t Barolo be better out of a Grassl 1855?
2/7/24, 6:20 PM - Hmmm Never thought about using a Grassl Cru for anything except Burgundy. I’ll try it sometime.
2/7/24, 6:13 PM - Just buy more 2010. Problem solved.
2/7/24, 5:58 PM - Del Dotto Cabs are amazing.
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
